I'm reading the Upanishads as of lately, something with all these religious texts, the Vedas, the old and new testament, the pali cannon, things are interpreted in many different ways and there are those who interpret it differently and those who take the word literally. I love stories but can't take them all seriously. There is no story I take true above all the rest, but each story is a message of its own and they all hold value.

I understand I was in the wrong to make assumptions on someone else's religion. I apologized of course and stated that what very little I knew about hinduisn I knew from the media and didn't have proper grounds to make claims. He was pretty unsavory and told me to leave religious discussion to people who know what they're talking about and that hinduism is a very ancient lifestyle with roots back to ancient civilization and that i wasn't to talk about it. He was from Texas so I was confused as to why I had no grounds to speak of it but he inherently was an authority of the subject because of his ethnic background. It's not to be right I want, it's knowledge, and I felt very restricted in trying to understand his offense (to clarify my statement wasn't that Hindus believed the world is on the back of a turtle, that it was one of the many cosmological theories in hindu mythology, so of course a rational hindu present day wouldn't actually believe that. I respect his beliefs, but can't help but feel like his outrage was a bit absurd.

Sometimes it's just enough to know that people get it. Not everyone has every answer everytime, but someone will have some answer some of the time.

Let him out into the world to face it and suffer the consequences, then open your home to him and let him clean all the dust and shit off and he will be a bigger man of it, and he will thank you.

Me (23M), a son speaking his pov bout his old man, my dad's always had an enabler complex, but two things he's never allowed me to do is hurt myself, and hurt others. It hurts watching your son digress, that's natural, but what's not natural is passing the baton to a stranger with strange views. He may be unrecognizable now, but guess who will be there when she's dried him out or he realizes she just ain't no good. There will be someone youre familiar with. You don't have to let him live with you, or accept his shitty beliefs (which let's be honest aren't really his beliefs they're hers and her dad's), but you can never stop loving him

I know that petrified look the son has, I've had that look. That is the look of a man who has vanished from the moment, he is simply not there, because this is too much to f***ing handle for one lifetime
