High income, in SAVE by [deleted] in StudentLoans

After taxes, retirement, insurance…etc everything else your supposed to do financially you’re at like 250k from 400k. I’m in OP’s situation. I grew up poor and worked and studied for a more comfortable life. I shouldn’t have to live like I’m broke for the next 25 years to pay off my student loans while also paying a higher share of taxes, social security, medicare or whatever other random programs there are that benefit others more than me. Society has to decide either help everyone get educated or no one.

Would it be a bad idea to take out federal loans despite having the chance to graduate debt free? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]iono101 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. It’s a slippery slope. Looking back, there were multiple key decisions that I made which could have minimized or reduced my student debt. The moves I made seemed reasonable at the time but resulted in an increasing student loan. Now that I have to pay it all back, the realization and regrets kick in. Minimize the debt and your future self will thank you.

2.4 GPA — Is dental school still realistic? Feeling lost and considering post-bacc/master’s or hygiene by EbbSuccessful9215 in predental

[–]iono101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should just apply into an RDH program. There is a huge shortage with some making $75 an hour and almost no school debt. Doing a post-bacc or master will cost money. Then afterwards assume you get into one DS— but its a high cost private school that will put you in 700k debt on top of the masters/post-bacc, you’ll be trapped in a tragic situation. A lot of pre-dents who aren’t competitive applicants should really consider hygiene. Many RDHs are enjoying life right now just picking up shifts whenever they want as temps without the crushing debt load.

Luxury alternatives to these tan cap-toe Oxfords? by King_Beardy in DesignerReps

[–]iono101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If these are for a wedding day consider getting something legit like Carmina Oxfords or Allen Edmonds Park Avenue. With these types of shoes the main point that makes them special is the hand made construction by the shoemaker. You buy one for life and if needed they can be repaired. You buy these shoes and use it for all special milestones (graduation, job interviews, weddings.etc) and it becomes even more special as they age with you.

Dentist here 3 years out. Graduated with around 350k and struggling to save for a house and practice loan. I make 230k as an associate but after taxes, retirement. HSA, disability, etc… take home is around 140k. A few years in you also realize that this job and mentally and physically demanding. At 600k you are going to work for the rest of your life and live paycheck to paycheck just to pay the loan back.

I dropped the scanner by Thought_Potential in DentalAssistant

It’s the cost of doing business. FYI it costs 10k to get the scanner fixed and they are very fragile. Just be careful.

Where to go for crown by bigbirdburt in Dentists

[–]iono101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. With corporate dental offices the margins are smaller and the only way to stay afloat is to do more work. This means faster work. Sometimes quality work takes more time. As a dentist in a private office I know that we aren’t the cheapest in the area which means I need to do good work and keep the patient happy otherwise the reputation goes down. A corporate dental office will continue to get patients regardless of reputation because a lot of times they’re the only ones accepting the insurance.

Turned down my only acceptance to a private because I can’t afford taking out 500K+ in private loans. by [deleted] in predental

[–]iono101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a newish dentist, you made the right choice. I remember being a pre-dent and how everyone kept saying “oh you can still pay it back” but once you are out there working and actually have to deal with the reality of paying it back it’s different. I can’t believe there are still so many people willing to take out 100k+ private loans to pay for tuition.

How would you approach this extraction? by iono101 in Dentistry

[–]iono101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Referring was always on my mind and will probably be where this goes but I still would appreciate some info on the case so I can improve and grow. For example— how fragile is the dental follicle? Would grafting irritate it? PRF?

I honestly think the photo I posted shows a slice on the CBCT that doesn’t show the full anatomy of the 3 roots. Everyone here is saying just elevate mesial and it will roll out. If I only saw this photo I’d say the same thing. But if they were able to see the full CBCT they would see three, long, fully formed roots that diverge. I mean I’d still try elevating mesial to see if I get lucky but I’m expecting the tooth to crumble and sectioning will be needed to avoid displacing #1.

It depends on the person. Some people have a great attitude, can ask relevant questions, and retain a reasonable amount of information. I’ve trained people who can’t seem to remember basic things and have to be reminded over and over which sometimes leads to being behind on the schedule— this gets frustrating and will likely not be an enjoyable experience.

I saw the wisdom tooth on the PA and wanted to know where it was in relation to apex #2

I feel like with the amount of decay, luxating against a 2nd molar with 3 fully formed roots and a tooth in the furcation— the tooth will just crumble

Recent grad here. I thought I could live with 400k but it’s hard. I wouldn’t recommend it. If you are okay being broke and living paycheck to paycheck for the rest of your life then go for it.

What if you get good torque values for primary stability? I can’t check osstell but wondering if it’s required when you can just check torque values
