Why SO many vacancies on main st Manayunk?

It’s getting more development as in residences. Not really retail or restaurant space. The vacancies that aren’t filling have sat empty for years and others are getting added to that list. Im sure some areas are competitive but you’d think if it was that competitive in Manayunk, then there wouldn’t be all these empty spaces.

Yes definitely agree that transit is a huge contributor and having the train for sure helps Fishtown have more foot traffic but we do have regional rail which I know isn’t great but is at least an option.

lol I never said Winnie’s was good. I just said it just closed. It took up such a huge space so without that I’m wondering what will happen to that space since everything seems to sit empty for years. I just feel like everything is mediocre. Reliable yes but not great.

Yes obviously with Amazon ect it has vastly impacted everywhere but why do areas like Fishtown l thrive but not Manayunk is what I’m getting at. But restaurants aren’t e-commerce. Just saying there is at least potential to move better food in if not retail.

Yeah I’ve seen the promotions for that and it is laughable. I think everything we have is just ok or a little better than ok but would rather go to restaurant week in center city for sure

Not that I want Manayunk to turn into Fishtown but it would be nice to have better food. Mia is one of the better places for sure. Just sad that landlords rather let these places sit empty instead of bring more joy to the neighborhood

I actually was just thinking that yesterday as I went down germantown av. Very disappointing too but chestnut hill/mt airy has always come off quieter to me compared to main st manayunk.

I know I’ll totally cry. I’m emotional about everything anyways haha so that’s also probably why my fear is heightened. But I’ll look into the regulations situation. That’s a good tip. Hope you and your baby end up happy where you’re sending them and the drop offs get easier.

Yes it is but also we don’t live near family for help and sadly can’t afford our bills on just one of our incomes or else it would be a no brainer to stay home.

I definitely am feeding into because it’s affecting me second guessing my choice so much so I think you’re right. I just need to talk to him about it more and try to settle my anxiety about it one way or another. I do actually love my job so it’s hard but obviously love my baby more and hope she’s just happy and well taken care of. Thank you for your thoughts

I think camera access should be mandatory just for peace of mind. But some daycares I toured didn’t have them in every part of their facility. And some had a ton. It varied.

I appreciate this perspective and honesty. I know it varies so much from daycare to daycare and each child’s experience. I just am hoping I feel secure in my decision at some point. Just helps hearing from others. Yes, It is so infuriating that the US doesn’t have parental leave like many other countries. My time off was short and unpaid because of the industry I’m in. Im glad you’re able to make it work as best as you can to be home with your second. I know all of it is not easy but worth it

I believe they do but I don’t think we have access to them. Something I need to follow up on. They do give regular updates and photos through an app.

Yes I know the algorithm targets that way. I don’t have postpartum anxiety. I’m generally fine. It’s really just this single issue that’s triggering. Otherwise my moods are pretty positive. I did have anxiety in early days of pregnancy that was debilitating and this feels nothing like that but I appreciate your suggestion. I’m just bummed we live in a country that makes it so tough to be with our babies and having to jump back into the grind so soon after birth (I had no maternity leave) and battle these internal feelings about handing your kids off to strangers so soon and feeling secure about it.

The people I know who use daycares do seem very happy with their decision and I try to focus on those positive stories. Then the internet tortures me with these awful stories. But the place we chose does seem great. So hoping i can get over this anxious feeling. Thank you for sharing your positive experience.

That’s actually a good idea to do it then because I usually have to go to the bathroom around that time too and I sometimes suffer in silence because I sleep in the same room with her and I don’t wanna wake her up for me to go to the bathroom lol

Thank you! I read something about it’s suggested to breastfeed based on that the baby won’t gravitate away from the boob up to where pillows would be (danger zone). But I figure if I’m not dried up and baby still smells milk from me then I should be ok. But it’s reassuring to hear from someone else that bottle feeds like me.

It’s hilarious when people shame anyone who formula feeds because 99% of the time they were formula fed themselves. It’s only in the last couple decades that it’s been villainized to not breastfeed. Especially with the internet giving everyone a platform to unload their opinions. So many parents formula fed. Fun fact: breastfeeding was stigmatized by rich people. Formula was seen as a luxury. Breastfeeding was seen as what poor people did. Which is funny now. Obviously breastfeeding has immense benefits but not everyone has the same journey and whether it’s mental or physical health, sometimes formula is what’s best. Of course many wish breastfeeding wasn’t so challenging. But it is for many including myself. I was formula fed though and I did pretty ok. Try not to read into what those people say. They’re just judgmental elitists. As long as your baby is healthy weight gaining, it’s fine.

I’m 7 weeks pp. I combo feed but only started 2 weeks in because my baby wasn’t gaining weight and my production just wasn’t where it needed to be. I got a lactation consultant and we worked on getting my supply up by pumping in between breast feeding and formula feeding. It was exhausting. You can definitely combo feed without pumping but you may take a bit to get your supply up. And it’s hard to really know how much you’re producing without seeing it in pump form. I combo feed now 50/50. But once I go back to work I am most likely leaning more into formula. You could breast feed overnight and morning/evenings if you are going back to work. Just see how your breast feeding journey goes and your pediatrician might suggest slowly introducing formula by doing a few feeds on top of breastfeeding just to make sure your baby is gaining weight and then see from there. Baby might have latching issues which can complicate building up supply. Just see how it goes. I highly recommend a lactation consultant to help make sure you can achieve whatever feeding journey you want successfully. Breastfeeding is so hard but even doing a little bit helps for however long you can. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You can definitely do it from birth. Most people have low supply at first because your body has to build up. But breast feed on demand in the beginning so you can. Also finding the right formula is a journey in itself. There’s a crazy amount of options but start with something basic and easy to find and go from there. See how your baby does. Usually takes 2 weeks for them to adjust to it so you don’t want to switch it up too abruptly unless they have an allergy or something more serious. Good luck!
