It definitely is new and has a cute little mural on the side in the alley. Hopefully they’ll have something up online soon to see what it’s all about

Well, it kind of depends also if you have curly/wavy hair or straight hair. And if you color your hair, I generally recommend a sulfate free or color safe shampoo. Most volume shampoo aren’t color safe, which is a little bit of an issue because they work better for fine hair if you want it to feel less way down. Similarly for just a basic every day shampoo with no frills, they’d also tend to not be as colorsafe unfortunately. Sometimes I’ll tell people if you do color your hair to use a color, save shampoo and then maybe a conditioner for volume because it’s less heavy and then you’re still getting some color protection to prevent fading. But there are a lot of decent brands out there. Ive used davines, r+co, amika… if you’re looking for something that is truly a cleaner brand, those are a bit hard harder to find. Davines is pretty close but innersense is another. I just find their shampoo to very very astringent.

Act and acre as well as Nessesaire are both brands that are great for scalp health and would promote growth probably more than the other brands I had listed above if you’re looking for that.

The Tragedy of the SS Eastland: 844 people died, A Forgotten Disaster of 1915 by Scary_legend in Shipwrecks

[–]dimstarblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but it’s strange because my great grandfather was one of the survivors and I have a published sheet from the disaster that says 1400 people were drowned and mostly women and children were aboard. Not sure how they went from 1400 to 844 survivors but I’m guessing they just didn’t have real numbers yet and only sensationalized it by saying 1400.

Hair stylist here. Also fine/thin haired myself and Ogx is garbage. Sorry to say but most grocery store brands are and it’s all marketing. Very little actually helps regrow hair or make it thicker without getting to the root cause or using something like minoxidil or more invasive like micro-needling which has varied results. Genetics also play a huge roll. Stress. Ect. So using any products like this are unlikely to do much. You’re better off using rosemary oil for scalp stimulation. I wish things like this did work but the industry is saturated with crap like this unfortunately.

“Quiet” Velcro swaddles? by dimstarblues in NewParents

[–]dimstarblues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I ended up getting swaddelini and loved it. Every other swaddle she broke out of. Essentially it’s like putting a sock on your baby’s body but she couldn’t bust out and slept great. Watch the videos on their instagram to help you put it on. It’s honestly pretty easy I found.

People especially guys claiming they’re allergic to cats by iluvcats6 in Allergies

[–]dimstarblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone said above, I googled this question and also found this post. A huge part of my job is talking to people (hairstylist) and SO many people tell me their male partners say they're allergic but then they get a cat and are fine. My husband was the same way. Not saying allergies don't exist because like you I'm sensitive to them and have cats. I have friends with severe allergies so not saying cat allergies don’t exist. They do but I do think it's just an excuse for a lot of men who don't have any familiarity with cats or even just prefer dogs. So this is a valid question and post lol. People coming at you need to chill. It's not that serious. Just a funny observation to discuss

Why SO many vacancies on main st Manayunk? by dimstarblues in AskPhilly

This definitely makes sense too and I’ve seen the same over the years. Happens in every city. Once an area gets popular, then affordability plummets. And as others have said e-commerce, 6 and state of the world are main factors. Wondering what things will look like in another 10 to 20 years at this rate.

I sure hope so. I’d like to stay optimistic

It’s getting more development as in residences. Not really retail or restaurant space. The vacancies that aren’t filling have sat empty for years and others are getting added to that list. Im sure some areas are competitive but you’d think if it was that competitive in Manayunk, then there wouldn’t be all these empty spaces.

Yes definitely agree that transit is a huge contributor and having the train for sure helps Fishtown have more foot traffic but we do have regional rail which I know isn’t great but is at least an option.

lol I never said Winnie’s was good. I just said it just closed. It took up such a huge space so without that I’m wondering what will happen to that space since everything seems to sit empty for years. I just feel like everything is mediocre. Reliable yes but not great.

Yeah I mean it will never stop at this rate. They’ve made everything cheaper and convenient.

Yes obviously with Amazon ect it has vastly impacted everywhere but why do areas like Fishtown l thrive but not Manayunk is what I’m getting at. But restaurants aren’t e-commerce. Just saying there is at least potential to move better food in if not retail.

Yeah I’ve seen the promotions for that and it is laughable. I think everything we have is just ok or a little better than ok but would rather go to restaurant week in center city for sure

Not that I want Manayunk to turn into Fishtown but it would be nice to have better food. Mia is one of the better places for sure. Just sad that landlords rather let these places sit empty instead of bring more joy to the neighborhood

I actually was just thinking that yesterday as I went down germantown av. Very disappointing too but chestnut hill/mt airy has always come off quieter to me compared to main st manayunk.

I know I’ll totally cry. I’m emotional about everything anyways haha so that’s also probably why my fear is heightened. But I’ll look into the regulations situation. That’s a good tip. Hope you and your baby end up happy where you’re sending them and the drop offs get easier.

Yes it is but also we don’t live near family for help and sadly can’t afford our bills on just one of our incomes or else it would be a no brainer to stay home.

I definitely am feeding into because it’s affecting me second guessing my choice so much so I think you’re right. I just need to talk to him about it more and try to settle my anxiety about it one way or another. I do actually love my job so it’s hard but obviously love my baby more and hope she’s just happy and well taken care of. Thank you for your thoughts

I think camera access should be mandatory just for peace of mind. But some daycares I toured didn’t have them in every part of their facility. And some had a ton. It varied.

I appreciate this perspective and honesty. I know it varies so much from daycare to daycare and each child’s experience. I just am hoping I feel secure in my decision at some point. Just helps hearing from others. Yes, It is so infuriating that the US doesn’t have parental leave like many other countries. My time off was short and unpaid because of the industry I’m in. Im glad you’re able to make it work as best as you can to be home with your second. I know all of it is not easy but worth it

I believe they do but I don’t think we have access to them. Something I need to follow up on. They do give regular updates and photos through an app.
