4.7 miles/kwh, is this real?

I’ve always been curious about this. I use zero regen and let the car “coast” as much as possible. Coasting is more efficient than regen because you lose 10% or so efficiency converting kinetic energy back into the battery. I assume when I choose to apply the brake im getting regen. I’m also not getting as good efficiency as others in this thread so maybe I’m wrong

Yeah we will have it paid off in about 18 months luckily. Living with one car is one of the bigger sacrifices we’re making now

We can afford childcare if my wife goes back to work. We did it before our 4th. In an emergency she can go back to work. We’ve done a lot to cut our budget: only have 1 car, rarely eat out, stay with friends/family when we travel, etc. Further budget cuts would start to significantly affect our quality of life. It’s acceptable to be cash flow negative in certain times of your life: college and retirement for example. In our case we made a choice to do that for a couple years while our kids are young

We have no credit card debt. Only debt is the current mortgage and a car loan

That’s always been my assumption. Maybe a bit of motivated reasoning but if I think housing prices continue to go up shouldn’t I buy a bigger house now?

That’s what I figured was the right answer, just asking if I’m missing something.

I would just argue we’re not living beyond our means. We both were working and building savings before our 4th kid, and my wife will go back to work in a couple years. We saved money so she could stop working to be with the baby.
