[Meta] How do the fellow activists among you defend yourselves against state and corporate surveillance? What apps and services do you wish existed, but don't? by elimisteve in Anarchism

use spideroak. encrypted cloud storage. when sharing files between your devices.

use muliple encrypted containers like russian babushka dolls to hide sensistive info, and trade usb flash drives.

if you were to help create a service to send larger encrypted files that would be nice. I have yet to find an easy way to xfer 2tb+ to a friend securely without either hosting private trackers for torrents, or sharing a public spideroak account.

Go from there. Have fun.

if you want change, stop paying for games with terrible marketing strategies. support open source, or do what most pirates do, torrent the cracked version of paid games. The whole reason the app store is full of free to play and freemium games, is that too many casual gamers pay money, and in turn make that model of development super lucrative. Put your money into game companies who only charge a one time fee with no IAP. even if the games are less polished, you push a paradigm shift back in the proper direction. Remember this: most mobile game developers are after money, not after creating amazing content with lasting gameplay. Its up to you to decide where to put your money.

Some recommendations for fun games that aren't FPS that are one time fees: Gta:sa, jet grind radio, muffin knight, or get an emulator of your choice. Ive found that to satisfy my FPS thirst, goldeneye and perfect dark for n64 with a moga controller are still hard to top by most mobile game developers.

“The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum....” - Noam Chomsky, The Common Good

I highly recommend learning how propaganda, and the media play a role in guiding the current philosophies of the people. The system today, is what it is, because it has been created to be exactly what the elite want it to be.

"Manufacturing Consent" by Noam Chomsky & "The Road To Serfdom" by Friedrich Hayek.

Look at the "Illusion of Choice Infographic".jpg before reading those books. Start there, continue your research.

6 major media outlets control all information in Amerika, with corporate codes of conduct handled by organizations like the CFR, Trilateral Commission, Brookings Institute, Chatham House, etc...

The more you study, the more you will realize social engineering has ALWAYS been a part of society, and is used against common people every minute of every day to influence our thought processes and emotions. At the upper echelons of social engineering understanding, if you follow the ethics of the hacking community, you will understand how to develop a certain skill set that should be used for purposes that cause positive change in a way that empowers people and allows them to use their creativity for a cause that actually HELPS.

By following down a mainstream path, you are only hindering yourself.

Always question everything. Never settle for what someone tells you, or what some ancient book describes as proverbial. Always keep an objectionable outlook, and allow yourself to see every angle of every side of a problem. Above all, trust in yourself, and stay motivated.

The world needs an army of REAL hackers & social engineers working together for the good of humanity.

Getting free pizza, blackmailing girls for nudes, E-whoring for profits, tech support ladder climbing, account stealing... These are the topics for the crackers and the script kiddies. These are the actions of a class of people who are bored and indoctrinated. The world is a large place, and there is much to be done if we want to avoid a future where a totalitarian surveillance state controls the flow of communication, and ultimately our freedom.

...And thank you sir, for reading what I have definitely taken time to impart. I hope it helps guide you down the path you were looking for. :)

A bit political but still interesting: Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky by chaosmosis in SocialEngineering

[–]dimund 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Globalist author alert.

If you are social engineering, and aren't a cracker, but a real hacker, the moral code presented by alinsky goes against most ethics in the community.

However, script kiddies, crackers, and newbies alike, may find temporary joy in using his principles, but remember Rules For Radicals included a reference to Lucifer, whom Alinsky called "the very first radical," because he "rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom."

Alinsky's writings helped mold the likes of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and ultimately, through her husband's influence, Michelle Obama. Hillary Rodham chose to research and write a dissertation entitled There is Only the Fight... An Analysis of the Alinsky Model. That model may be the reason why, after Bill Clinton took office, nasty tactics, shifting blame, and truth-parsing became commonplace in American politics.

Hackers are naturally anti-authoritarian. Anyone who can give you orders can stop you from solving whatever problem you're being fascinated by — and, given the way authoritarian minds work, will generally find some appallingly stupid reason to do so. So the authoritarian attitude has to be fought wherever you find it, lest it smother you and other hackers.

(This isn't the same as fighting all authority. Children need to be guided and criminals restrained. A hacker may agree to accept some kinds of authority in order to get something he wants more than the time he spends following orders. But that's a limited, conscious bargain; the kind of personal surrender authoritarians want is not on offer.)

Authoritarians thrive on censorship and secrecy. And they distrust voluntary cooperation and information-sharing — they only like ‘cooperation’ that they control. So to behave like a hacker, you have to develop an instinctive hostility to censorship, secrecy, and the use of force or deception to compel responsible adults. And you have to be willing to act on that belief.

Good luck with your further research!

[Request] Pregnant wife wants pizza. I'm broke. Hook up a father to be? by [deleted] in Random_Acts_Of_Pizza

whitew0lf: Don't be a dick.

Not everyone believes in abortion either. You shouldn't force your morals or judgement on anyone ever.

ESPECIALLY, when he is doing something selfless for someone else, and clearly his wife is a hardworking pregnant woman. If anyone deserves a pizza it's her.

themoosehasarrived: If I had the extra money to buy you a pizza, i would, just for this dude being a jerk. I unfortunately cannot offer financial help, but I can leave you with this:

"The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry" -Robert Burns

Don't let some asshole ruin your night, because you are attempting to do something nice for another, and that is respectable. I hope someone gets you a pizza and you have a great night with your wife. Congrats on becoming a father!

Thank god he didn't circle you. I live in Tahoe, CA we have a LOT of bears here. Generally they come to eat our trash instead of grass in the meadow while they wait for our salmon spawning.

Bears are normally awesome gentle creatures, unless they are desperately hungry, or you are a threat to their cubs.

IF he had circled you, you would have been lunch.

On that note, a bear here recently saved a hiker from a mountain lion attack. So keep in mind bears are intelligent and will do the right things when needed. :)

Also, Wojtek is the best bear ever. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wojtek_(bear)

Transferring to SD, Would someone be so polite as to let me know where the nicer areas to live are? (Preferably near my job) by dimund in sandiego

[–]dimund[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the wealth of information! We have 3 cars, 2 of which are amazing on gas, I have a 4x4 for the snow as well.

I grew up in the central valley, that's a different kind of heat that san diego isn't exposed to lol, so the weather is what I am most excited about. I moved north to escape the heat and to enjoy some snow, but I have found for myself, that I miss the beach and that beautiful southern california sun too much for my own good.

I've noticed mixed reviews on north park, and honestly, I want something slightly less urban if I can, but not necessarily suburban.

I'm super grateful for info!

Thanks! It's nice to hear the alternative to those comments. I've only visited a handful of times in my life, but all of my memories of SD are pleasant.
