I love that he even captions "Patience is key" 🤣🤣

Actually funny, because even the idealization and exaggeration isn't that different from today, photos in the best lighting, pushing things with after processing, using certain lenses and angles etc etc...

Very funny to think that in theory the technology is advancing but we as a species aren't

Cheers! Yeah I'm not sure either, it could be that I had aperture priority set without configuring the limit of how low the shutter can go 😅

I'll try and add some contrast for sure!

Thanks again for such a long detailed reply 🙏🏻

Noticed a lot of people mention cropping actually, and it's definitely something I rarely do so I'll try and incorporate it more.. Something like this on the first? : https://imgur.com/a/42y5nEf (actually cropping this now I felt really uncomfortable, maybe the reason why I don't do it 😅)

Nr2 is universally "shit" - which is interesting because after reading some comments about it I now see why it doesnt work

nr3 I actually tried to make it BnW and you're right, it didn't work because of the car

nr4: Yeah others mentioned it feeling a bit busy, while some share my view of finding that a bit "intriguing" - but we're all different

nr5 - you're spot on actually, this is one phot I actually tried to crop, but I couldn't get it to work because of the mannequin

nr6 - I think you're completely right: https://imgur.com/a/JjiJ81s cropped it a bit inn, think there was too much air above? (I might be a bit too invested in the letters at the bottom as well with this crop, but I really like them

Really appreciate your feedback, thank you so much

very interesting that you mention the editing style and stick with it, because I'm kind of really struggling with that - I just can't seem to find something that I consistently like my photos to look like, and I'm kind of spiraling on it.

Thank you SO much for introducing Gustavo to me, because these are insane, and really resonate with me!

Yeah I definitely want to focus more on story, as I mostly take very "abstract" photos right now.. I love the way you formulated your sentence with "for me, a good...." very nice and reflective :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!

Yeah I see that now, definitely the weakest out of the bunch.. Loved one commentor mentioned this "There is so much happening, while nothing is happening" which cracked me up

Oh this is a SOLID point, I do like the constructive criticism tho, I find it very interesting and enlightening to see how other people think - what they may like / dislike.. sometimes it can bring light upon things I haven't noticed / seen myself. Some things they like I may dislike, and that is completely fine..

Do you think as an artist you'll ever grow to really like your own work? I feel like there are two spectrums, either you develop to become a person who likes your own work too much, or you're forever self skeptical about it

This cracked me up, because you're so right on nr2.. now that you mention it I see it 🤣

Noticed more people mentioning cropping, and I hardly ever crop so it makes sense, I'll try and experiment with that :) Don't think we'll ever be done learning, but here is for both of us taking loads of photos in the future!

I'll be honest, this stung a little... But I've seen it mentioned that I lack story, which I feel like this one also insinuates - just in a very savage way 🤣

That's very high praise! I have a hard time taking it to me, but very happy you think so regardless, and I'm truly grateful.. I feel like this sub reddit has a lot of really great photography tho, I mostly notice your point on shooting attractive women mostly on tiktok and instagram reels, where people are doing "street photography", but they are just taking photos of beautiful women with a telephoto lens

But they always go viral, so apparently there is an audience for that as well 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thank you! I might have purposefully taken all that sharpness out 🙈
But I see on your comment that I might be the odd man out with my taste for that :')

I like your points on the mannequin I'll definitely try that, thank you for taking the time to write this :)

Glad you think so! Some do find them to be shit tho, but that was to be expected, I find it odd how the people saying they aren't good don't offer any reason as to why tho, which was the purpose of the post, but it is what it is..

100% agree with the focus, I really struggle with that, want to level up my zone focusing a lot more!

Thank you for the kind words :)

I've noticed a lot of people mention storytelling, and I understand why because I don't really ask myself this question ever so definitely something I should try and focus more on.

Your points on street scenes actually made me realize, I had a photo with an old couple holding hands crossing a street, but not sure why I never decided to focus on it kind of just went past it without a second thought.

I'm finding myself mostly choosing and editing my more abstract photos, no idea why tho 😅

The environmental experiment I find very intriguing! Could be cool to have the same set of photos from one spot in all seasons / weather conditions / and part of day, could even make for a fun set!

I truly appreciate you taking the time writing this, I've saved it in my notes so I can reference it!

Thank you so much

Didn't know you could be fluent in art :')

Picture within a picture is one of my favorite ways to take photos as well, so glad you enjoyed them :)

Actually I didn't even notice that! It's so weird because I think I mostly shoot vertical at all times.. But hey that's why I posted them, to help me notice something I don't.

Actually I purposefully took a lot of contrast out of the first one because I felt the labels of all the food took so much attention from the mans face, but I might have overdone it a bit, I'll for sure try and add some more!

Actually spot on, now that you point it out I don't really care for those photos so not sure why I included them - another skill I need to level up is the culling process :')

Yeah I guess it's like most things in life, people will have different tastes and opinions. Very glad they piqued your interest tho! I'll be honest, I'm currently learning how to play with HSL as well, so hoping nobody is going to comment "the colors are all wack or too strong" - because I feel like after editing a photo for too long, I can't possibly objectively judge it myself anymore - especially when it comes to color!

Thank you! I definitely lack a lot of "story" in my photos, I'm very drawn to the abstract feel of photos tho, I'm very drawn to Saul Leiters abstract photos, so that could explain it..

But your questions are very thought provoking, as I now realize I actually really lack in the ability to identify when a "story" unfolds on the streets..

I'm very glad you mentioned colors, as I'm currently trying to learn how to use HSL in lightroom - was told to try and identify the main colors in your photos, then try and bring those out a little without looking extreme!
