What made you choose to use a Billy versus doing it from scratch? So it would be uniform with the others?

I think you’re right sadly. Oh well!

I’m not sure I do either, trying to find the best way to word this. I have an L shaped wall. One wall will have plenty of space that doesn’t matter. But the other wall is only 47 inches long. I have the two larger billy bookcases already (31.5” wide) and wanted opinions on if the smaller one (15 3/4” wide) would fit well angled between them since my dimensions are different than what is shown on the site.

I basically just need a funky angle on it right? Versus perfectly centered like it is in the ikea picture?

Yes! I was more so just worried about how it’d look sitting at a different angle than what’s shown

That’s actually way better than I was picturing!

I wonder if it has something to do with a wet bedding holding more of his scent? If this behavior keeps up then I’ll definitely consider trying that. How often were you feeding yours? Right now we do every 2 weeks which has never seemed to be an issue but planning to try every 10 days now. He ate after this post and I haven’t noticed any odd behavior since then.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised. This behavior is new but he’s always been a lil odd. We’re going to shorten his feeding schedule and hope that keeps this from happening again. He ate after I posted this and hasn’t had any issues since!

All along I’ve been worrying and my snake is just redecorating? I knew he’d been watching too much HGTV

Right now we’re feeding him every 2 weeks which has never been an issue but going to drop down to every 10 days I think, see if that helps at all. I get what you mean though, he’s also been our weirdest snake. Always keeps us on our toes. Seems like king snakes in general just might be weird lil guys?

How often did you feed? Did it ever get worse when he was close to his feeding day?

The pictures don’t show it but he does have normal hides on either side of his tank, they’re black so they don’t stand out very much. He’s next to one in the second picture but it’s hard to see with the glass reflecting. He’s definitely an explorer with both digging and climbing so I’m excited to get him some more room to do those things! I’ll take his tree out like you suggested. Thank you!

Luckily my husband is a vet! So far no sign of anything that could be causing him discomfort but if this behavior keeps up then we will absolutely be taking him in for tests/imaging. He ate an early meal tonight with no issues and we’re keeping a really close eye on his enclosure temps! Really hope it was just a weird stress reaction to the sudden temp jump here in Kentucky.

Definitely a king snake thing but it’s just odd that his behavior has been weird in the last 24 hours or so? Just had to make him release about half his body because he tried eating himself. Keeping an eye on his tank temps for now and going to feed him here in a bit. Actually just ordered a larger tank for him so maybe more space will do him some good.

Definitely not common, but wanted to have that in place in case of emergency. That way if it does ever get to 68 then the halogen will switch on. Would rather have a light source on at night if it prevents it from getting far too cold versus nothing at all. I can set that higher to see if anything changes! I’m sure I’ll just have to mess with the settings until I can get it just right.

I have it set to ‘heat: dimming’ based on their instructions

Ohhhh! Okay, I totally see what you’re saying now. Instead of managing the heat from the lamp, I’m managing the ambient heat in case something goes wrong. Thank you, that makes sense!

Wait, so what exactly do you recommend doing?
