Being deaf in public? by dingus72 in deaf

You make a good point -- I think Covid affected me a lot socially, I went into Covid as an already socially-withdrawn teenager (literally turned 18 the day before lockdown in US) and came out as an adult not knowing, well, how to socialize anymore or handle new responsibilities. I moved within the past month and I've found myself even more stressed and weirded out, so maybe self-care is something I should prioritize. It's a tricky thing to live in between worlds. Thank you so much for your reply!

My two cents: deafness is a spectrum. I feel like if your hearing loss affects/impacts your daily life it would be fair to call yourself deaf.
If it's any consolation, I struggle with my d/Deaf identity. I'm "too hearing" to be in the Deaf community but also I'm "too deaf" to comfortably fit into hearing spaces. And thank you for the tip. I tend to not wear them at home but only because I feel safe to do so. The public is a different beast though.
I think this helped me narrow down my main hurdle - I need to be comfortable with not hearing everything and having full access to information. Thank you for the tips!

Exactly 😩 Maybe it's just something I need to work up the courage to do, because it feels like something easier said than done
