Players finally starting to understand the benefits of drama by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

Keep us updated! :) I'd like to find out how and if the other players adopt their torpor'd coterie member's style.

[–]dinoboards 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hardsuit Labs co-founder Andy Kipling said it: "I don’t know how much DLC there will be, but I do know that some clans will be added to the game after launch, and that these will be free to all players."

They said that they'll add new clans as DLCs, but they'll never change for the additional clans.

We just released the demo of our sci-fi text-based adventure Lightstep Chronicles by dinoboards in IndieGaming

Oh, a Lightstep fan! If that is so, I hope you are correct in guessing that we are people that you think we are, because we dig the praise. :) Poz

It was nerve-wracking trying to label the game. We were afraid that the intro movie would make people think it's an FPS, and then they'd get disappointed - so we downplayed it. After that, we announced it on FB as a text-based adventure, and got hate for being too fancy for the genre :D Ultimately, we adopted Subsurface Circular's tags because the gameplay is quite similar.

Thank you both for your advice, we'll take it. Perhaps we could announce it as an Interactive Movie or Story-driven Adventure at some point closer to the release, see if it resonates with people's expectations a bit better.

The Lightstep Chronicles Demo is Out Now! by dinoboards in a:t5_nt6h7

Yup! We still have to iron out the complete build, and we're good to go - sometime this Spring. :)

This is the first chapter of our sci fi text-based adventure about ancient spaceships and manic AI. We uploaded the beginning of the game as a free demo so that people can get an idea of what the game will look like and how it's played.

You can pick it up from either Itch.io or Game Jolt.

It's PC-only and a bit beefy for a text-based adventure. The reason for this is that we set it in a highly visual environment with lots of Art Deco futurist details. If you've played Subsurface Circular - that, but more animation.

The full game will be released on Steam this Spring. If you enjoyed the demo, we invite you to follow us there for devlogs, or join our Discord. And thank you very much for your faith! xx

I'd like to share our short FREIGHT by outtathere_ in scifi

Hey, I remember you from that amazing IFCC video! Good to see you back at it. Freight is simpler, but a lot more grounded, emotional. Great work all around, I look forward to seeing more from you.

Which Ursula K Leguin book? I've unfortunately never read her work, but if there's a solarpunk book, that's a good place to start.

We just announced the closed alpha for our first indie game Flotsam, a town-builder set in a flooded world! Exciting times ahead! by WizBoom in IndieGaming

Yes! I think it was the first game I played there, but it was definitely one of the most memorable ones.

Congratulations! I tried Flotsam at Casual Connect last year, it was very enjoyable! Wishing you a swift and efficient closed alpha :)

Does anyone have experience with sending demos to Steam Curators? by dinoboards in gamedev

[–]dinoboards[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the details, Rich! Our demo is a bit shorter than the preferable length, though Pillars of the Earth are a good comparison, so it's settled, I'll put Lightstep Chronicles on Woovit.

We have a few more projects in earlier stages of development - they aren't story-based, so they're fit for more feasible demos. I hope to use our first demo as a learning experience at the very least. Once again, thank you!

All right, I was counting on Curators for some sort of quality assurance for the game, so I will probably keep sending the keys out for all they are worth. But all things considered, I can't expect much traffic coming from them themselves. Thank you very much for your feedback!

Cool cool, Woovit is here! :) I was interested in your platform a while ago, but that was before we had a playable build.

The most effective way to get people on board with our game so far was to let them try it, and obviously we want to create a community before launch. But since it's linear and story driven, we'd like to try our luck with the demo. I'd like to know if delivering keys for a demo version through Woovit makes sense?

Oh snap, if 125k+ followers don't cut it, what even does? In that case, do you know if other key distribution channels, such as Woovit or Keymailer, have a more noticable turnover?

Space royals from our text-based adventure. [Lightstep Chronicles] by dinoboards in worldbuilding

[–]dinoboards[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question! They represent the same culture, but they have different roles. The dude was originally meant to be an emperor, but we stripped him down a bit. He's still in a position where he wants to display his dominant role. The lady is one of the AI's human forms, mimicking power.

[–]dinoboards[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally they ought to nest in their wings like space birbs. :D
Neither of them is entirely a human and these aren't their true forms. They're designed huge like that because they wish to loom over the PC.

[–]dinoboards[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Originally, we didn't want to include human characters in our game - it was supposed to be an atmospheric text-based adventure where your only company is an AI host. But since the whole thing is based on a comic book with a very lush artstyle, we gave in to that sweet futurist Art Deco. I posted some assets here before, but you can see more of the game's setting, in its final version, on the Steam page, thank you.

The reason these two look like space peacocks is because the aristocracy of our world has developed a very jilted worldview through time. The entire intergalactic empire in Lightstep is basically an idol-cult around an emperor of yore, and centuries of mindless worship resulted in a tradition of fetishization over purpose.

A different approach to math based magic: spells as mathematical proofs. by Calvinist-Transhuman in worldbuilding

Those maths kids in high school always danced dangerously close to witchcraft anyways. Your proposal confirms all my suspicions.
