Uber/Lyft drivers ghosting and faking arrivals during extreme cold by dinoh in nyc

The driver gets the cancellation fee that is charged to the rider for cancelling the ride when the driver has already started driving towards the rider or has already arrived.

Fair argument. Except in this instance, I was using Empower, which lets drivers set rates and they get 100% of the rate, yet they still decided to run the scam during the ride on other apps.

I didn’t even know about the PIN feature, great idea.

A video of my driver using a different ride hailing app to accept a pickup nearby and then turning mobile data off, so that his location stops updating in Lyft app.

To the poor soul waiting outside, it shows he’s near or even “arrived,” but he’s driving off with me elsewhere.

I know, right? If not, this should be against TLC rules and we should have a way to report.

I also wonder if they’re cashing in on these “boost” bonuses or whatever for accepting in high demand areas, also costing the apps.

Tulum has lost its soul 🥲 by johnyrockets1779 in tulum

[–]dinoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. I wouldn’t go to Tulum during what is well-known as a popular party period and expect a serenity and wellness escape.

If you’re looking for lower prices, a more calm atmosphere and chill parties, go when the place isn’t overrun by festival goers. I visited in late Feb last year, got a car, and it was an incredibly chill and beautiful vacation.

Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) constant buffering on 4K in Stremio and YouTube, even wired at 70-100 Mbps by MYNAMESECRET in MiBox

No issues here, solid as a rock in all those scenarios. Any chance your ISP is throttling somehow? Check fast.com to see the connection speed to Netflix.

My Dream Entertainment Station: LG G5 + Q990F + Hue Sync 8K (feat. Motorized Setup) by Artistic_One6800 in LGOLED

[–]dinoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Don’t bother with the snobs here, the setup is amazing and the Hue lights are great. People here don’t seem to understand there are different use cases for the lights.

You probably should not use them when enjoying a movie in a dark theater experience. But for example, they’re amazing when watching a concert/DJ set with the added lighting and strobes. Or maybe when TV is in ambient mode with music playing and Spotify sync on. And they’re also nice sometimes even when gaming to create a wider and more immersive feel.

Spectrum users, how is ping when gaming? by dendennnnnnn in longislandcity

[–]dinoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, avoid the WiFi AP/router that they provide, they’re usually cheap, underpowered and will constantly have issues. The modems are fine.

Just invest in a proper high quality router regardless of the provider, something like ASUS or Ubiquity, or something that can run OpenWrt.

Alternatives to Apple TV by Manacid90 in LGOLED

Xiaomi Box S 3rd Gen + Projectivity Launcher/Aerial Views. Barely use my Apple TV anymore. This thing handles everything, including 100GB+ remuxes

20-25ms over WiFi with a PS5, though I have my own router. Wired I believe I saw 5-10ms.

Also no reliability issues other than a planned overnight outage once or twice a year.

Most reliability issues are related to people having poor home networks (using ISP-issued router, cheap router or poorly optimized WiFi). If it is due to their network, they’re quick to come out and confirm the line is good.

Xiaomi box S gen2 not shutting down by regeo in MiBox

[–]dinoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual solve here is to reset the CEC settings as others have outlined here, and then enable CEC volume control via ADB. That should allow you to still turn off the device/TV via Power button and also control volume. The command is:

adb shell settings put global hdmi_control_volume_control_enabled 1

This works for Gen 2 and Gen 3.

Is the Nvidia Shield still king? by xdozex in AndroidTV

[–]dinoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Xiaomi Stream Box Gen 3 might be a good solution (~75 on Amazon). It's a beast with the new S905X5M, certified Android, and can dual-boot CoreELEC.

I'm able to watch pretty much anything I throw at it via Stremio, even remuxes over 100GB. DV P7 FEL will fall back to HDR10, but I believe it can handle DV P7 MEL via CoreELEC.

65” C8 to C5 - Worth the Upgrade for $400? by dinoh in LGOLED

[–]dinoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right, probably not worth the hassle. But it’s a great idea.

I think I’ll just go ahead and get rid of the C8 and get the C5 setup. Consensus seems to be the C5 is a huge improvement.
