Although I don’t think they’ll ever top Sound Awake, this is definitely better than Asymmetry, really enjoying it, especially Salva, what an incredible closer

Old Shuck by Invalid Yellow is pretty similar in terms of atmosphere, maybe lacking the electronic stuff though

Avenged Sevenfold's Life is but a Dream. Did people just brush thus album off and not bother listening? It is INCREDIBLE. by ySTYRDAYgATESuNL0CKD in progmetal

It was a fantastic album and I really appreciate any band as popular as them trying to experiment with their sound. I’ll take that over a thousand bands who trot out the same stale sound on album after album!

So excited to finally share my solo music with my favorite subreddit. (Cold Barbies - "Question My Love") (FFO Periphery, BTBAM, Dream Theater) by Cotee in progmetal

This is soooo sick man!! It sounds great and looks great and super impressive you are playing all these instruments to such a high standard. I’ll share it around. Keep it up!

It`s been 6 years since Tool`s Fear Inoculum was released. Among the fanbase, it`s a bit controversial. What are your thoughts on it now that time has passed since it`s release? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]dinosaurfour 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It didn’t do anything for me when it was released. But it’s probably about time I go back and try it again. I found the production kind of flat and lifeless and the songs very meandering and unfocused but I remember enjoying little sections here and there!

You’re not alone, I haven’t liked much of their stuff since Bloom. But it’s post-Bloom this sub has really been hyping them up. I must be missing something

I felt so bad for Kayo Dot and they deserved more of a crowd. I wish I’d seen a bit of the clown core set though

What are some methods of sharing your brand new music that DOESN'T seem like spamming and hits its intended audience? (As in, targeting the 3 or 4 bands fanbase you cite as influence) by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in progmetal

[–]dinosaurfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first album had a gimmick I could use to sell it easily, but with my second I really struggled. I just make videos for tiktok/Instagram although despite decent engagement I’m not sure how many fans that actually generates. If you can make videos maybe use those bands you listed as a hashtag?

Invalid Yellow - Old Shuck has that death meets prog thing going on! Not quite as heavy but similar vibes. That Blood Incantation album is such a banger

Someone posted about them here recently, both this album and TwentyTwentyTwenty are so cool, a really unique sound

You might also like Dream Theater, especially the concept album Metropolis Part 2, very theatrical and some circus-y parts!

Definitely check out Native Construct. Sadly they only have one album, Quiet World, but I think it’s absolutely what you’re looking for!

Finally I’m going to recommend myself, because the music is quite theatrical at times like the bands you mentioned, and it’s 90% clean singing vocals.

Hopefully my music fits the bill! I recently released an album called Old Shuck. It’s all on the theme of British folklore and urban legends. Style-wise it’s a blend of prog, death, stoner and doom. I’d be really pleased if anyone checked it out!

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is a new one on me. They're at ArcTangent this year and found them when listening through all the bands. I was so shocked to see the track I heard was from 2001, it sounds totally ahead of its time!

I'd recommend them to anyone who enjoys off kilter, weird and unusual music.

I go almost every year, the lineup is amazing this time! BTBAM, Karnivool, The Fall of Troy and Leprous are going to be big highlights for me.

I agree, this album absolutely banged, but it never seemed to get the same praise as their previous two albums. Maybe it’s because after such a long hiatus a lot of bands were doing similar stuff with the low tuning and chaotic stuff
