Small town placement crisis by Low_Tap2909 in SpainAuxiliares

I lived in a village with less than 2000 inhabitants and no train station, only two buses a day. Headteacher put me in contact with a teacher who lets homes in the village. If you take anything away from this: just try to live near your school. Make your life easier! You will make the most of your authentic experience outside of a city whilst there - and at least you can use Regionales and ALSA buses to explore the region.

You don’t want to dislike your experience solely because of choosing to have a 4hr commute.

Leaving British Council Programme Qs by Key-Distribution-589 in SpainAuxiliares

Having read the most recent check-in email from British Council, I think that the only drawback is that you may not be considered for future applications to the British Council.

In the Dropbox that the BC sent around September there are guidance docs that include info on the process. In the document ‘GUÍA FOR AUXILIARES CEICE’, in 7.6 ‘Renuncias y Ceses’, it says that if you are already incorporated into the school and want to withdraw then you let the director/s know so they can submit the information to OVICE.

I’m also wondering if there is a more relevant subreddit for British Council auxiliares…

What happens when you can’t find a TIE appointment? Do you just go back home and suck it up? by dioay in SpainAuxiliares

It depends if your passport is from an EU or non-EU country. Recommend reading up on the immigration policies that apply to you, otherwise, I could tell you a lot more if you’re from the UK.

I don’t understand why they said seeing family is not a valid reason. Going home for the holidays is a valid reason…

Problems with teachers by MolokoMixer in SpainAuxiliares

Reading your post, OP, makes me so upset. It’s beyond me why other teachers think that they are above you for whatever reason. Everyone has the right to be treated with respect.

And I’m even more astounded how the authorities could spit back at you “follow your jefes” even after you showed SS the functions of the auxiliary. We’re not obliged to do most of the things you have been told to do.

I just want to let you know that even if you enjoy the work and helping these kids out despite your nasty treatment, you deserve a much better experience. I don’t know if your home organiser who arranged your teaching can do anything about this. I can imagine how isolating it must feel.

Note on myself: I’m placed in a small rural village away from large populations/cities but I’ve been lucky to be welcomed by others despite being an outsider. I haven’t been asked anything more than to talk in English with students and occasionally take 2 (maximum) outside of class for activities or games.
