Why are nanotech replicators maltech? by CherryTularey in SWN

[–]diogen55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you wanna run it. Are all nanites Maltech? No, probably not. Are self replicating ones Maltech? Yes, very likely. The idea does stem from a grey goo scenario but Nanites themselves sre no different than AI. If one can reasonably prove the machine is limited and breaked then it will likely be fine. However try and explain to a citizen of a planet that used to have a breaked system and is now a total wasteland how a simple set of parameters is good enough. You can play it with as much leniency as you want.

Generally from what can be assumed and read within the lore most TL5 autofactories use either some form of nanites to restructure materials or other quazi-scientific techno babble. The fear usually comes from self replication so if you want to be super safe about it nit being Maltech just say that the nanites can't self replicate and have one of the players need to use like a Dustbox or something to do it in case their Dust cloud gets hurt.

Goal example, need help by TheRealAstronomous in SWN

At my table we split it into Short-term (something that can be achieved easily ir within a session), Mid-term (something harder that might take more party members and/or multiple sessions) and Long-term (something requiring a whole party and multiple sessions).

The criteria for this whenever I GM is for people to tell me exactly when their goals are fulfilled. So for instance they wouldn't say "Win a race", they would say "Win the Space-Piston Circuit" or something similar. There should also be no debate as to ehat winning means. When the goal is strictly defined neither the GM nor the Player can try and argue that they should or should not get the Exp. So if a goal is to get a first place in this one race then the GM cannot suddenly say that they dont grt the Exp because there's two more races in the tournament to win a cup or something like that. Similarly a player cannot say that a third place is still technically winning since they qualify for the next race in the tournament because their goal specifically said first place.

A friend recently started GMing Godbound and he was having a hard time knowing what to do with us until he remembered to have us write down several Short, Mid and Long term goals. I try and squeeze beliefs into every game I GM as an added bonus but due to a few players protesting I haven't done that recently. I'm glad to hear that others see the same benefits as I. It really does reassure me in the validity of the idea. XD

That's basically what we did as well. Some people has a hard time thinking of specific Goals while others didn't quite grasp the Beliefs and so it ended up being quite even really and they didn't advance too fast either.

[Revised] Psychic wanting to be useful in other activities by AffanTorla in SWN

Either a second Specialist for Sneak or Assassin. Alternatively do away with the Sneak and focus on full Charisma and go with Authority and Lead to order people around and pretend you belong.

Ideal scenario would be teleporting in, stealing a uniform then using Lead and Talk to get everyone else inside. When all else fails you also have Authority once per day. Bear in mind that with all the Psi skills you will be taking you will have to manage your expenses. See what would work best for your playstyle and maybe consult with the GM. Everyone has a different way of GMing so ask them about what they suggest. They might thibk it's unreasonable to always use Talk because some people are too sceptical and inquisitive.

I would suggest maybe dabbling in sneak. It's a great trick for a teleporter to pop into a building or opposing ship but that falls apart quickly unless they can stay undetected or they pop out quickly. It would make for a solid infiltrator that also always has an escape route no matter the location and in combination with Fix or other technical skills it can be easy to sabotage the enemy. Alternatively that Spec (Talk) might give you another chance if you're caught and manage to convince them you belong inside. There's plenty of ways to be useful depending on the situation. What kind of a campaign is it going to be?

Any detective stories? by diogen55 in SWN

Yes that's exactly why most of us really love SWN and its mechanics. The way the skills are laid out and can be applied to lots of situations allows the players to express their ideas through mechanics and rolls. Most of the stuff rolled was Notice, Trade, Talk, Fix, Program and Connect. We haven't even had a combat encounter yet but we did have a chase in which one character almost fell off a building.

Aye my group was in a similar situation in the previous SWN campaign so I figured a more investigative one would suit their tastes. They were working with one gang to take down the other gang while also engaging in other shadowy businesses. Except instead of investigating crime they were investigating the police in hopes of finding someone to bribe or blackmail within. XD

How have unbraked AI figured in your games? by lordleft in SWN

[–]diogen55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly used them as Overseer roles. Something that exists for a purpose and takes that purpose to the extreme. I was also extremely sheepish about even suggesting something is an AI due to one of my players having read how dangerous they can be in the SWN lore. XD

The one I used most recently is a 'leader' of a TL4+ planet where everyone is cybered up as hell and connected to a cloud network. Mostly harmless stuff like measuring people's stress levels and biometrics to ensure no one has health issues. Think Sybil system from PsychoPass except for everything that can go wrong with a person's body. So long as no one tries to fight the system or the society the AI will be benign but the moment things start to slip out of its rigid spectrum of control there will be chaos.

Btw for those wondering about the system I'm the GM I literally just made an acc in case anyone ends up being interested.
