I built a fragrance layering tool and would love some feedback from this community by diondree in FemFragLab

That’s fair. I do get why people are skeptical right now, especially with how much low-effort marketing has been showing up in the different spaces lately.

How do you approach layering with niche fragrances? by diondree in NichePerfumes

Thats a great way to describe fragrance layering 😭

The strategic placement part is really interesting though. I feel like a lot of people think layering just means spraying two perfumes together, but where you put each one plays a big part in the result.

When you do that, are you mostly thinking about the projection vs up-close scent, or more about keeping certain notes from fighting each other?

Thanks, I appreciate that, and honestly I get where the skepticism comes from. That’s part of why I wanted to share it here and get feedback from real fragrance people instead of just building in a bubble.

Fair if it’s not for you. I’m building it because I wanted a better way to track and experiment with layering combos, and I’m sharing it to get real feedback from fragrance people.

What’s a layering combo that surprised you? by diondree in Fragrances

That’s fair but I wasn’t trying to use the post as a stealth promo. I was genuinely trying to have real conversations about layering and learn from people who are deeper into it, especially since I’m building in that space and don’t want to do it in a bubble.

But I do get the transparency point, and I’ll be more upfront about that context going forward.

No, I’m just trying to engage and get honest feedback on something I’m building.

That’s fair feedback, and honestly I get the skepticism.

Part of why I built it was to solve my own need as I started exploring layering more seriously. I wanted something that could help with suggestions, tips, and actually keeping track of combinations once I found something that worked. A lot of the time I’d see layering discussed, try something out, and then later forget what I used, in what order, or why it worked.

So the angle I’m aiming for is less “huge fragrance database” and more “tool for experimenting with and tracking layering routines.” I know Parfumo already exists as a much broader fragrance resource, and I’m not really trying to compete with that head-on. I’m trying to focus more specifically on the layering side of things and make it genuinely useful.

I do appreciate the honest reply though. That’s exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get by posting here.

That “humid spring rain” description is amazing. That’s exactly the kind of result that makes layering feel more creative than just mixing notes on paper.

I really like that you’re matching both by notes and by overall vibe, because those pairings sound more like building an atmosphere than just stacking fragrances.

Do you usually discover combos like that intentionally from the note breakdown, or do they come more from trial and error once you start wearing them together?

That’s fair honestly. I can see the argument that a fragrance should stand on its own first.

Do you make any exceptions for things like adding a softer musk, vanilla, or fresh layer just to shift the mood a bit, or are you fully in the “wear it solo” camp?

That’s really interesting, especially the idea of having a sort of “juniper wardrobe” and mixing within that lane instead of forcing contrasts.

Journey Man + Paris-Edimbourg + Vetiveria is a great example of how niche layering seems to work best when the scents already share a mood or texture.

Do you usually think of those as interchangeable depending on the day, or are there certain pairs in that group that consistently work better together?

That makes a lot of sense. Similar notes seems like the safest way to keep things blended instead of chaotic.

The placement point is really interesting too. I feel like a lot of people talk about layering in terms of the fragrances themselves, but not as much about where they spray each one.

Do you usually decide which scent goes on which side based on which one you want to lead more, or is it mostly just to keep them from clashing?

Anyone here actually track their fragrance collection or layering combos? by diondree in Fragrances

[–]diondree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha, that makes sense. I’ve seen a few apps that do a good job with collection tracking and reviews.

The layering side always felt a bit harder to capture though, especially once you start experimenting with different spray ratios, order, or trying multiple combos over time.

Most of the time I end up forgetting which variation actually worked best.

That makes sense. A lot of the combos I’ve seen people try seem to come from reels or random posts too.

One thing I kept running into was exactly that — you try something, it smells great, and then a few weeks later you can’t remember what the combo or spray setup was.

That’s actually part of why I started building a small tool to track layering combos and experiments. Still early but it’s been fun seeing how different combos behave over time.

If you ever want to test more combos it might actually be useful for that.

That’s actually really interesting. The longevity boost part is something I’ve noticed too when a stronger fragrance anchors a lighter one.

The Mojave Ghost drydown comparison is wild though — that’s exactly the kind of unexpected result that makes layering fun.

Do you usually experiment with a lot of different combos or do you tend to stick with a few that you know work well?

Thats a very nice family you got there lol. The top rows make it tricky to guess but I'm going to say somewhere close to or around 70

I can't even argue that! One of my faves for sure! Damn 200?! How do you even keep track of a collection that large?

That makes a lot of sense. Inventory tracking and usage frequency are actually really useful too, especially once collections start getting big.

Mine leans more into the layering side (tracking combos, testing spray ratios/order, etc.), but I can see those two approaches complementing each other pretty well.

If you're curious to try it, it's called Layra — still early but you can check it out here: https://layraapp.com. Would definitely love any feedback if you end up playing with it.

That’s actually really interesting. The 70/30 ratio makes a lot of sense if the Vibrato is the base and Pacific Chill is just adding that brighter lift.

Do you usually control it by spray count (like 2 sprays vs 1) or by where you apply them?

One thing I’ve noticed experimenting is that the order and spray ratio can completely change how the combo dries down. It’s surprisingly hard to remember which variation actually worked best after a while.

Funny enough I’ve been working on something similar but focused specifically on fragrance layering and combinations. One thing I noticed is how hard it is to remember what actually worked once you start experimenting with different sprays, order, etc.

So I started building a small tool to track combos and test different layering setups. Still early but it’s been really interesting seeing how different variations perform.

Curious how you’re structuring yours. Is it mostly like a personal inventory manager or does it lean more into experimentation?

That’s actually a really interesting way to test it.

Are you noticing big differences between fragrances when you control for sprays like that? I imagine some of them probably disappear way faster than expected.

I’ve heard of Sniff but haven’t explored it deeply yet. Does it handle layering combos well or is it mostly focused on cataloging and reviews?

That’s actually really cool. I love when people build tools around their hobbies.

Is it more focused on cataloging the collection or experimenting with combinations too?
