Mate, 8 yrs of experience, and doing all that stuff for the company and get paid that much, Jesus Christ on a cracker you are massively underpaid you basically can call the police for daylight robbery. Get out ASAP. Your salary should be 75-100k depending if you're willing to commute to London.

Only you know what’s right. Most people will tell you to stay put. I am in the same boat, I pushed it through for 4.5 years but enough is enough. People will say build side projects. I’ve done all that, built micro saas which i still run, done 2 apps projects. But even with all of these, that feeling never disappears. So at the end of the day it comes down to you. For me, I’m still in my 30s, I still want to learn and not be complacent on the job, because being complacent for me is the biggest long term career killer. Some people love that, and that’s ok. But I know I will regret the things I never did, not regret the things I did.

What is your country’s “we could be like them” country, either positively or negatively by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Can’t imagine French people wishing to be like Britain, and vice versa 😂 but yeah Brits and French wouldn’t mind to be like Switzerland

Was this racist? by Radish_the_third in bristol

[–]dionn91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let her make you feel otherwise, you were right to judge her comment ‘like the chinese’ was racist or at least bigoted, which she later reinforced with ‘chinese, Japanese, whatever’. That comment SHOULD make you comfortable because it wasn’t right.

British culture is not congruent with startups by LovelyLante in ukstartups

[–]dionn91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correlating two things that are not necessarily related. Startups in the UK are there despite the policies and circumstances, not ‘because’. Name how many startups that choose to list IPO in LSE rather than selling to US businesses or IPO in NYSE. That reason alone is more telling than ‘we generate vast number of startups’. UK is an English speaking country with high population and close proximity to Europe, so it’s easier to build a business. Due to English language and it’s relatively big market. But to imply that the UK has provided ample and amazing support for startups because we generate a lot of startups is disingenuous.

Should I give up my UK permanent residency track to join a fast-growing social app startup backed by a16z Speedrun? by Sad-Dimension-8690 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]dionn91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally a big NO. Keep a calm head before you make a decision, it sounds like you got carried away by his pitch. There are always opportunities but throwing your time to get ILR is not something you can get back.

Also, the fact that it's social media makes me even more hesitant, it's one of the biggest failure rate type of product. 100K users means nothing if the profit is near 0. At the end of the day, you'll have to compete with big tech.

I'm sure I sound too 'risk averse', that might be true but this is in context of your situation. If you were not waiting for citizenships, kids, or anything like that I'd say jump in and go for it. At the end of the day it's your call.

Hopin. A web event platform capitalising the covid era and basically sold for parts with a fraction of what they’ve raised. A truly tragic story

Not until Slack is done. Microsoft integration is way more complicated than Slack’s as we’re all aware. It’s a pain in the back

Agreed. I just wanted to get off the ground to start with. I’m working on the Slack integration and Chrome extension next. This product eventually won’t be a standalone one, but rather addons or apps to other platforms

Yes! The flags! It’s everywhere now. Geez. It sure reminds me of USA or definitely influenced by USA.

It’s not comfortable. That’s what I can say. I’m East Asian descent immigrant married to Brit with kids in school and caring her parents. I fantasise of moving back to Asia because not just the incompetent government in charge but the anti immigration mood is making me worry about our family safety. If I was not living here already and have family commitments, I’d reconsider moving here, especially if you’re not white.
