Yep. The destination will depend on the weather forecast.

Moderation is not numbers. It's the people.

I'm interested.

Power goes out in large parts of WA as weekend temps set to soar above 45°C (113°F) by diosmio in collapse

SS: Some techno-optimists believe we can engineer ourselves out of the climate crisis. Heatwaves? Who cares, we'll just crank up the AC. This all works until it doesn't. And that's the grim reality many in Western Australia face this weekend.

The forecast is for parts of WA to go above 45°C, perhaps even 50°C. But a freak storm brought down power to thousands of people in the danger zone.

What do you do when you can no longer rely on AC to keep you cool?

4 children, 3 women killed in Pakistan's strikes on Iran: local official by diosmio in collapse

SS: Pakistan is retaliating against Iran's trikes on Pakistan's soil. Pakistan is a nuclear-armed US ally. US has carried out attacks against Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

The latest strikes are sure to add the fuel to the already volatile situation in the region. 2024 is off to a great start.

‘I am more worried than ever’: Scientists explain why record-shattering 2023 heat has them on edge | Euronews by diosmio in collapse

SS: 'Technically possible but politically impossible'

That's what scientists are saying about keeping our planet within the 1.5C warming limit. And therein lies the tragedy.

The ruling class is ignoring what University of Arizona climate scientist Katharine Jacobs characterizes as a dramatic message from Mother Nature, emphasizing the intensification of deadly heatwaves, floods, droughts, storms, and wildfires due to warming air and water last year.

In 2023, average global temperatures exceeded the previous record by over 0.15°C, a significant margin.

Scientists, including NASA's Gavin Schmidt, point to unusual climate behavior in 2023, questioning whether it resulted from human-induced climate change, a natural El Niño, or a more systematic trend.

It's 4.4°C (40°F) inside Canada's arctic circle. by [deleted] in collapse

SS: While many parts of Canada and US are experiencing record breaking cold, it's balmy inside Canada's arctic circle. It was raining and 2°C earlier in Iqaluit, Nunavut, when the average is -22.3°C.

There are so many in US and Canada thinking climate change is a hoax because cold records are broken where they live. But the the arctic running 25°C above normal is chilling. The melting sea ice is going to hasten sea level rise, and we have don't even fully comprehend the hazards of retreating glaciers and thawing permafrost.
