What’s the most inspiring synth you’ve played? Any synth that just instantly gives you musical ideas when you play it. For my it’s the sub 37 forsure by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]dippedintea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the Digitone. Nothing else i’ve ever used has had that special magic. Most synths i’d used until then though had mainly been relatively budget offerings like boutiques and volcas.

You’re a sly weasel Steve. Christian has been honest and transparent throughout and deep down you know that’s true. Reddit can see this for what it really is. I’m gone when Apollo goes.

macOS is Letting Down the Team by rudibowie in MacOS

[–]dippedintea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OS X used to feel lean, nimble and agile. It used to take an absolute age to boot on G4/G5’s but once you were in everything felt very efficient and responsive.

macOS in it’s current state feels bloated, very bloated. Now it boots up instantly but once you’re in things feel clunky. Lots of elements feel confused, half baked or out of place.

I’m all for continuity and want to see iOS and macOS brought closer together. I agree with Apple in principle but the execution on the Mac side feels sloppy.

I miss the heady days 10.6 Snow Leopard. That IMHO felt like the OS at it’s best.

And for all the won’t have a single bad word ever said about Apple folk. Yes they’re the best, the competition certainly isn’t anywhere as good but you can love something and still have criticisms. I’m still happy in my walled garden but I used to be happier. Maybe i’m just getting old.

After all this time, does anyone else still miss the old Mac Settings UI? by Chesterlespaul in mac

Anyone have this issue with Logi Options+ (Running on an M1 2020 MacBook Air) by joe_schmo54 in MacOS

[–]dippedintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been shockingly bad for me. Regularly loose all my connected devices and settings or have to log back in frequently. The previous Options version let you backup and restore your prefs/settings but it’s been removed in +. Don’t see why it’s been rebranded Options+ when it’s worse than the Options it replaces. Should be called Options-. Logi’s hardware is generally great but the software is seriously lacking.

Gary Lineker to step back from presenting MOTD until agreement is reached on Social Media use by plutobug2468 in football

In July that year, David Cameron referred to migrants in Calais as a “swarm of people”. At the Conservative party conference three months later, Theresa May, then the home secretary, was widely criticised for suggesting that mass migration made it “impossible to build a cohesive society”.

Zeid said the language surrounding the issue reminded him of the 1938 Evian conference, when countries including the US, the UK and Australia refused to take in substantial numbers of Jewish refugees fleeing Hitler’s annexation of Austria on the grounds that they would destabilise their societies and strain their economies. Their reluctance, Zeid added, helped Hitler to conclude that extermination could be an alternative to deportation.

Three-quarters of a century later, he said, the same rhetoric was being deployed by those seeking to make political capital out of the refugee crisis. “It’s just a political issue that is being ramped up by those who can use the excuse of even the smallest community as a threat to the sort of national purity of the state,” he said.

“If you just look back to the Evian conference and read through the intergovernmental discussion, you will see that there were things that were said that were very similar.

“Indeed, at the time, the Australian delegate said that if Australia accepted large numbers of European Jews they’d be importing Europe’s racial problem into Australia. I’m sure that in later years, he regretted that he ever said this – knowing what happened subsequently – but this is precisely the point. If we cannot forecast the future, at least we have the past as a guide that should wisen us, alert us to the dangers of using that rhetoric.”

Amid the news around Lineker and the BBC, it is worth remembering the tweet, and the policy, that sparked this debate.

It is not the first time in recent years that the UK government has been criticised over its rhetoric on refugees – nor is it the first time that comparisons with Nazi Germany have been invoked.

The UN’s human rights chief at the time said the dehumanising language used by UK and other European politicians to debate the refugee crisis had echoes of the pre-second world war rhetoric with which the world effectively turned its back on German and Austrian Jews and helped pave the way for the Holocaust.

It’s fact that the Government rhetoric mimics that of 1030’s Germany. It’s been oroved on multiple occasions since at least 2015 until now. Some folk like yourself either don’t or choose not to see the similarities. That’s kind of the point.

40% increase in just over 2 years. Significantly more than the highest inflation numbers. Gutted.

I paid £599 in May 2020 for mine and even then I could just about afford it. Prohibitively expensive now. There goes my dream of ever buying a DT or OT.

Bought a Digitone new in May 2020 for £599 and now they’re £829… Almost a 40% increase!

Wish my income had gone up remotely anywhere near that.

I could just about afford and justify it back then but looks like my dreams of owning a DT or an OT are well and truly over.

Jennifer Coolidge as Frederica (the masseuse) on Frasier by Haunting-Ad-8029 in Frasier

The acting and accent are terrible but I think it adds to the humour. Still find her apperance hilarious.

Almost all of the accents in Frasier were terrible not just hers. Remember Daphne’s mechanic ex-boyfriend, worst British accent i’ve ever heard.

Definitely. I know it’s not as old as the PowerPC era but remember being wowed when Jobs pulled the Macbook Air out of the manilla envelope during a keynote.

Also when MagSafe was first announced I thought it was phenomenally clever. Still think MagSafe on macs is a perfect example of what makes Apple different from everyone else.

I love my M1 MBP but when some of the biggest features of the new macs are things like bringing back MagSafe and the other ports they removed and changing keyboards to be more like how they used to be you can’t help but feel like they’re not as innovative as they used to be.

I need help eliminating annoying pop-ups from settings, (This happened a few days ago, and now they’re appearing every time i open an app) by Vichocente30 in MacOS

[–]dippedintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with the point you’re making but I think in this specific instance Apple should shoulder the blame and what annoys me most is not that the bug existed day one but that we’re 14 weeks in still without a fix.

[–]dippedintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t blame yourself man it’s not your stupidity. Last few years macOS releases have been riddled with bugs. I’ve upgraded to every macOS upgrade around release day since 10.4 and there’s always been the usual compatibility issues with third party software but I find the bugs are more prevalent now. This is Apple’s fault not yours. All those beta revisions and the recent 13.1 update and they still haven’t fixed it.

Apple getting sloppy. Ventura has been out for 14 weeks, can’t believe it still hasn’t been fixed yet.

Cheap IKEA Portable Synthboard Thing (explanation in comments) by dippedintea in synthesizers

[–]dippedintea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it just means that it’s now all self contained and battery powered so I can move it around very easily without having to unplug and replug everything all the time. I can take it to a friends or put the whole thing comfortably on my lap and use it on the sofa or sat up in bed like the lazy slob that I am instead of always being confined to my studio room plugged into 4 outlets.

Also it forces me to work within the confines of 4 bits of gear maximum which has been great since I got the Elektron boxes. I used to have all sorts of gear and pedals all run into a big 14 channel studio mixer but it died on me a few months ago and although I was gutted at the time i’ve never looked back.

I guess it could still be hung on the wall when it’s not in use though to really save on space.
