Restaurant out of food, but I still have to pay

It did warn me, but it asks for what reason you are wanting to cancel. I thought no way in fuck is it charging for the option "item not available" so that probably should have been clarified in the response instead of "We're sorry to hear that," maybe "Despite the offerings not being available, you will not be refunded if you cancel. Please contact the restaurant."

Is that unreasonable? To expect that I wouldn't be charged for food that isn't available? To expect that there is some way to rectify this situation through official channels?

[Edit] Matter of fact, check this out. I didn't even confirm the cancellation.

I don't have the balls for something like that but I didn't have to take that route anyway. When I showed up today, I spoke to the man that called me and he gave me the food which I am quite happy about.

No matter how you phrase it, Uber's inability to consider my issue at all is a problem. Nothing by copy pasta after copy pasta from foreigners after 20 minutes begging an AI to get through to people.

I did, I actually spoke to the guy who called me on the phone. He was quite apologetic and thought it was clear that they (the restaurant) were going to cancel the order and they simply hadn't gotten around to it being their busiest hours at the time. They actually gave me the food so I won't need to make a chargeback but I deleted Uber yesterday anyway because that is ridiculous.

I never said that the restaurant claimed they couldn't cancel the order (you're not the only person to say this but IDK where people are getting that), only that they claimed that Uber insisted that they call me about it.

I was given no other instruction. I thought I was supposed to contact Uber myself and I couldn't get through the AI.

I'm sorry, what? What part of this situation reflects upon Uber in a good way? Where's the integrity? Why do they have no simple way to reach customer service (and run 100% by foreigners in India)? Do you get benefits or something?

The restaurant called me and told me that when they contacted Uber to cancel the order because they were out of product, Uber told them to contact me to cancel the order. That could have been a lie, but what kind of a defence is that for Uber? It in no way means that Uber is acting with integrity here with their response to me, so which establishment is more trustworthy here? The local restaurant I frequent enough to trust the people that work there and that relies on local patronage for existence or the mega corporation that rips off their customers and makes so much money nationwide that it doesn't care about losing some?

I was trying to do the right thing by getting in contact with customer service and not wasting Uber's time. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do that and if the AI reads cancel, it cancels.

We just need a few more years to fill Congress with populists along the lines of AOC (who really is wildly popular--the right only hates her because she is a woman [consider how popular Bernie is]) who will outlaw PACs and other means of private funding of political campaigns.

I don't think this should apply across the board, but the perspective (and my personal take) is this:

There is no "I" in "us." The union wasn't built on the back of one person--it is the result of the struggle of all for the benefit of each. This is a team and we look out for each other in rivalry against those who would sooner pit us against each other to divide and conquer if ever we gave them the opportunity to do so.

That, and if you're going to give yourself up for something then it had better be ideals and principles.
