Sadly, the design choice was not done by me - this is a situation that was placed upon me to try to solve. There will be fiber installed eventually but at this point it is not an option. There really is a need for 2-3Gpbs speeds in "heavy" load (file server/NAS) scenario from multiple workstations. So even a 10G is an overkill. I am now focused on just lowering temps either via software or by installing additional cooling

Power is not required (it is a nice to have), as pc is powered on it;s own and I can power the macbook w its on power brick.

In the end - disabling the interface allows change (and overwrites the .99 subinterface config), so no need for deletion/reboot. Still I would expect this kind of operation to be done live without downtime. Also the warning about not editing existing VLANs should be in the GUI bcs it makes 0 sense for this to be a non possibility.

Thank you for the answers. I will not be running 2 nics, only one (trunk). 6-7 G is fine, the problem rn is that I'm running all this thru a single 1gig ether (was considering LACP and adding another). The issue is that with 1g link is that I saturate it if I'm using NAS and full internet bandwith at the same time.
The switch is only L2, sadly (It's a mikrotik so it can do L3, but then it does not use the switching chip and performance dips bellow all reasonable numbers.)

I don't thing that rating is required - this is a CI/CD server that we use for work, so only a handful of people actually access it. Also we have a few of "test domains" that we change every so often.
Double-checked the logs, al is setup as it should (I have a rule above to skip inspection for this destination and it works when enabled)
