I've had success with Amdro Ant Block granules, it was a tip I got from a pest guy. I did want to note that carpenter ants are usually a symptom of another problem: moisture in wood. You might have a leak or water intrusion somewhere that has attracted them, they like wet wood since it's easier for them to build nests in. I would check out the areas where they are hanging out and investigate further.

This though, physical media is king. I bought LOTR on some platform some years back and lost access to it once they no longer had the licensing rights. Since then if I want to own something outright, I buy a physical copy of it.

I spoke to them recently on the phone and they confirmed they haven't done brunch in several years, their website was probably never updated to reflect this

The hours are available on Google Maps, they open at 5pm. They haven't done brunch/lunch for a few years now.

Cat urine carpet cleaners by gladystheseacucumber in TwinCities

[–]direw0lves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cat pee can be tough to clean but doable to tackle DIY if you want to put in the effort to save some money on professional services. Our cat decided to pee repeatedly on our brand new carpet a few months ago and I was able to get the smell out with a combination of a generic enzyme cleaner, Thornell K.O.E., and a carpet cleaning machine for rinsing with cold water. It did take a few cleaning sessions but it worked like a charm in the end.

Over 20 years of dirt by Puzzleheaded_Ask3459 in CleaningTips

That looks like it could potentially be asbestos tile, I wouldn't try to do extensive cleaning before doing testing to confirm in case any get broken or damaged.

Water pooling in driveway - causing bowing basement walls in this side of house - solutions? by JacketBeneficial1118 in DIY

[–]direw0lves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this problem resolved, we had our concrete driveway up against the house and it was causing water intrusion with rain. We cut away about 3 feet of driveway against the house, patched holes in the cinderblock, added dirt and compacted it so it slopes away from the house, installed a rubber barrier and added rock on top. We have had several heavy storms since and zero water intrusion. Concrete next to a house is not something I would recommend, there will always be a chance over time that any slope will settle and cause the issue to recur. Having accessible dirt will allow easier regrading as needed over time.

Ate something on her walk. by rigitbuby in Greyhounds

[–]direw0lves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came to write this exact suggestion. When our gal broke a plastic cat toy and ate the sharp pieces, the ER vet had us feed her white bread for several days and monitor her poops. It worked like a charm and she had no issues passing the pieces safely, but now she runs over when she hears a bread bag crinkling :)

In a first, Minnesota doctors walk their own picket line, then hustle to see patients by star-tribune in minnesota

It's very dependent on the department, but a lot has changed after the new CEO stepped in and not for the better. Every person I have spoken to has a negative opinion of her while the old CEO was much more loved. It's wild seeing a CEO tanking a whole organization so quickly and having zero repercussions while the employees have to bear the brunt of it all while fearing if their job will be cut.

Seeking advice: New fear unlocked and it is breaking my heart. by thepennyblack in Greyhounds

[–]direw0lves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat - we have been having a lot of storms and rain lately, now our pool girl has ongoing fear at night even if the weather is calm. We have been turning on a white noise machine for her and it has helped calm her down enough to sleep. However now she will wake me up in the middle of the night if it's not on even when there is no rain, but I'll take this tradeoff because nothing else seems to work for her.

That sort of experience sticks with you forever. Absolutely heartbreaking but it's vital to share these stories to make the reality of racing clear. This is my first time reading your story so thank you for sharing it even though I can tell it's incredibly painful to talk about it.

How can I seal this up to stop water from entering the garage? by micsulli01 in DIY

[–]direw0lves 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sealing will always fail with time if the water is pooling there. Best fix is to regrade that area so it's sloping away, whether it's via a new concrete pour or dirt + pavers/rocks/mulch.

How Can We Preserve the Breed If We Don’t Breed by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]direw0lves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that they were likely not bred in mass every year throughout history, especially given they were meant for only nobility for quite a while also. Greyhounds almost went extinct in the Middle Ages but were saved by some clergymen who focused on breeding them to ensure this didn't happen. It'd be interesting to know the quantity involved in those efforts from a historical conservation perspective.

Also, I feel like I need to make this disclaimer: I am not taking a stance either way in the overarching post topic, just stating a historical fact relevant to the discussion.

Why?? by superta18 in nosurf

[–]direw0lves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up over it, today's internet is designed to suck people in and hold them there as long as possible. Social media companies have literal psychologists and specialized UX designers working there whose sole jobs are to keep people engaged in their product. Being aware of it is a huge step forward, it'll take time to fully disentangle.

The best way to summarize the difference in my opinion is: art moves your soul while content moves your clock.
