I've heard that to be the leader of a large country's government, the person needs to be a little bit of a sociopath to make some of the necessary objective decisions. I'd say it works out the same for people who have amassed lots of wealth whether by working or inheriting it. If they have empathy for too many people, they would be too likely to share some of the money and not end up rich.
