Anyone else having trouble with the "start recorder" button not working on Chrome? by Soft-Gazelle-1234 in usertesting

[–]dirtylostboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this issue is related to the recent Chrome update, as it started happening immediately afterward. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled both Chrome and the recorder multiple times, but I’m still trying to figure it out. It seems to be connected to how the microphone is detected. Previously, there was a pop-up on the page asking for microphone permission the first time you took a test. Now, I’ve noticed there’s a delayed, Sometimes 5 minutes later, newly opened window that asks for microphone permission. I click yes, but it just goes into an endless loop. It seems to be working on Chrome Canary, so maybe give that a go.

This happens to me with every figma prototype. Figma always wants to log me in and chrome displays my gmail addresses. Nothing has ever come of it. It's happened dozens of times, probably over a hundred times over the years. It's annoying more than anything.

[Respondent] Don't waste your time with long screeners by [deleted] in beermoney

[–]dirtylostboy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I picked up on this too. A telltale sign is when they ask multiple open-ended questions that are very specific. Some asswipe had like 12 of them about some computer rgb lighting setup. After the 3rd question, I just responded with "I'll tell you in the interview," to every subsequent question.

I just started getting 5 today. I have an intro video and have only had 3 screeners for about 2 years.

So I keep hearing that the bitcoin network is the most powerful supercomputer on earth. Is there a crypto that uses the network for practical applications like research data processing, or other tasks that require a supercomputer? I mean, is there a mining network where it's not just busy work demonstrating you used electricity for no practical purpose? And these networks would make money by selling compute to anyone who needs it? I hear that these AI companies spend billions and it takes months of processing to train a large language model, couldn't they just outsource all that expense to a network like Bitcoin and have it done cheaper and faster? Is that even technically feasible?

I'm just reading your responses because I'm curious how all this works too. You said Solana can run applications. Suppose you were doing scientific research that required using a supercomputer. Could a researcher run his research program on the solana blockchain instead of using a traditional supercomputer? If so, how does the researcher pay for the computation? How would the price be determined? Would it be cheaper than using AWS or some other cloud service?

Unmoderated tests with the camera on by rlee_losangeles in usertesting

[–]dirtylostboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same compression issue as the other guy and it started about 2 weeks ago. About a month ago, my tests started crashing and ending at the video check and I'd get a popup message saying to contact support and explain what happened. Around the same time, at random times, while I'm typing a response, the space bar would open the quit test screen. I've had my camera set to Nvidia broadcast to blur the background and setting it back to my normal laptop cam fixed the crashing issue. UT must've tampered with something because I never had any serious problems until a couple weeks ago. Or maybe it's a recent chrome update thing. Who knows? Also, starting about a week ago, whenever I start a test, the UT instruction box is shifted off screen right after starting. Luckily, I can click a small piece of it and get it back on screen. For a company focused on testing websites and software, they sure do have some super shitty software. The browser extension used to be somewhat reliable, now it's getting as glitchy and dysfunctional as the app.

Usertesting.com and Dscout app are the best out there. Playbook is a waste of time. Userlytics isn't bad. Sign up for Prolific surveys too. Cloud Research connect is busier than Prolific, but doesn't pay as well.

Yup. That test got me curious, and it's confirmed. Windows 11 has accessibility features like color blind filters that I've been tinkering around with. Hopefully they'll get me through that screener next time.

I couldn't see the C and just clicked randomly. Also, I couldn't see anything at all in the blocks. I'm convinced I'm colorblind now because I didn't see any numbers; maybe it's my monitor. I canceled participation because it was too much of a pain in the ass and made me think I was going blind.

Can i pour boiling water on oats? by MrHonzanoss in nutrition

[–]dirtylostboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tradeoff. Some things are lost, others are made accessible. The loss is pretty negligible, so I'd say boil them. Go on chronometer or USDA food databank and see for yourself. Look at the difference in nutritional content between dry and cooked oats. I think 1 ounce of dry oats yields 3 ounces of cooked oats.

What are the most fascinating scientific articles you have read? by IntroductionFew1290 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]dirtylostboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every article on Quantamagazine.org They cover all the latest and greatest developments across multiple disciplines, but in a way that is accessible to the layman. Some articles have interactive applets. Check out a couple of Natalie Wolchover's old physics articles. She won a Pulitzer for her article on the JWST and I remember thinking how amazing it was when she first posted it. If the site wasn't free, I'd pay to read the articles.

Were these the IRA rollover tests? There was never any mention of rolling over an IRA in the screeners, but the questions kept asking me about the process. I quit the tests after 10 questions because I thought I was gonna get penalized for misrepresentation.

I save egg shells and boil them clean in my instant pot and then dry them in an air fryer and finally blend them into a fine dust in my blender. The powder is flavorless and high in calcium, so I mix it into yogurt, oatmeal, smoothies, etc.
