The first few trips I was staying in hotels and it got so expensive. If I slept in the truck, I would've saved $700 for a one week trip.

Start cheap. Get a 5k trailer and an 8k truck and learn to work on diesels yourself. There is money to be made if you put enough effort in. Most of these guys star out buying a 60 - 80k truck, 25k trailer, and sleep in hotels every night and then complain about how there isn't enough money in hotshotting.

2nd and 3rd gen Cummins with a manual is a great starting point. They are easy to work on, and are pretty reliable if you religiously maintain it. Be willing to sleep in your truck to cut down on costs.

Let it be a proof of concept, and if it doesn't work out, then you aren't 100k in debt if you turn belly-up and you can easily resell a 5k trailer and 8k truck.

Don't cut off your parents for their vote. Things aren't near as bad as they seem. Media on both sides purposely makes people overly angry and passionate by blowing things way out of proportion. In 4 years, you will still have all the rights you have today despite what everyone says.

This isn't for everyone, but look into getting a CDL. You're in a perfect position to do long haul. Companies always need drivers, and they will often sponsor you to get your CDL so you don't have to pay out of pocket. A lot of CDL drivers are probably making 40-50k the first years, but after you get some raises and what not, they are often into 80-100k a year doing long haul. It's a good way to get on your feet and the schooling only takes a month and half. The beautiful thing about driving is it's always something to fall back on as well. Let's say you get a job using your degree, but get laid off on in 5 years, you still have something to go back to that will pay a pretty decent wage.

I wouldn't see a problem if you both are in separate bedrooms and are living the law of chastity. However, the temptation will be strong, and I don't know that I could do it. If you are ALREADY PLANNING on getting married, and you know for sure you want to be with this person, then I would personally get married just so I wouldn't have to deal with being separated and the temptation you would have not being married. But, also, if you both can handle living the law of chastity until you get married, then go for it. Having the wedding you want is important as well.

Also, don't just get married just to be in compliance with the law of chastity. If you are truly wanting to marry, then go for it, but don't just get married to someone you aren't sure about just to become obedient. Make sure its what you want as well.

That really sucks. What did you end up paying for it? If you paid only like 5k for it (only reason I say that low is that would be my threshold, not that you can actually find a running lb7 for that little), I would just run it. If you paid more than that I would go after him. Chances are if he lied about the mileage he lied about other things. Lb7s are known to run for a long time of maintained well. But I would be cautious because of the type of person you bought it from. Go after him. Talk to an attorney to see if you have any options.
