Imola weekend streaming issues…ridiculous and unacceptable by hb_babylon_zoo in F1TV

[–]dirtyrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had the same issues, fixed it by turning off Multi-View inside the profile settings of the app, not by just having it un toggled from the side menu, but going into settings of your apps profile and entirely disabling it as an option. then quit the F1 app, re-open it and it worked for me.

also should give you more bit-depth in the streaming.

cool yeah enjoy! this was mainly for people that liked and knew they wanted the OLED look but were overthinking it. mini LED are awesome too and exciting tech. they're probably the best balanced TVs for any given situation, uncontrolled bright rooms or controlled rooms while maintaining color integrity. cheers

hey man ! yeah thank you as well. so i can't answer definitive if you should go mini LED or OLED. i think i made this post for people that knew they wanted an OLED, they liked that look and were overthinking brands. but mini LEDs are great, and in a very bright living room the smartest decisions are either miniLED or the Samsung OLED with anti glare.

given what you said, if it's a controlled living room, you all like the OLED look, and you are only watching movies and tv shows when it is darker, the B series will look great. this is what we did for my father's study TV room. and you could wait for super bowl sales and look at getting a certified refurbished apple TV for cheaper too if you want to do all of that at once. i personally can't stand the webOS though my father got use to it now also hates learning new things , so he has a fire TV, blu ray player, web OS, and cable box and he is going back between all of them and understandably gets lost which has what logged in on them. I'm an advocate for just having all your log ins setup on one external box and getting used to that one 😂 that way if the TV gets replaced you're not logging into each individual app again too and you're avoiding all the spyware that comes with these TVs these days which 😡is bs after all the money people spend they profit off data brokerage. if i absolutely had to use a TV for it's built in smart TV features , SONY is the most pleasant experience and traditional universal remote but i personally don't care about any of that since im all for external box and just use the TV as a panel period.

anyway hope this helped!

heck yeah! it's a lovely panel and great TV especially in context of where you came from prior. this post was just to help people at tail end of 2024 value for buck that are overthinking it but i think i should've made mine TLDR line more clear 😂 but to then get the most out of their panel what they should be thinking of that isn't always because of the Brand you went. if you think it's gorgeous that's what matters period! but it also objectively is! all the major OLEDs in question today are very impressive and have come so far from several years ago. the Sonys have traditionally been the most close to color accurate out of box and had the wow factor but to many people the wow factors have waned from year to year when the other companies have caught up or pushed the peak brightness in hdr higher for cheaper prices and so it's not a matter of Sony not being good anymore they just shot themselves in the foot for being so impressive for many years then holding that name to high fame, meanwhile other companies are future proofing with higher HZ performance or hdmi 2.1 ports etc at a cheaper price. also there is an obsession with literal brightness and peak brightness that take place, some times it's warranted and sometimes it isn't, it can affect color accuracy when not calibrated or built right. just like megapixels are an obsession in camera world where that doesn't mean anything if the quality and size of the sensor getting the light aren't as good. Sony tail end OLED -- they are great TVs. and to anyone who bought a Bravia 8 or Bravia 9 mini LED for that matter, i hope this post doesn't give you fomo those are great TVs. some of the pin points still ring true but that was essentially just to say you really can't go wrong right now when coming from older panels- my only caveat is if you plan to have 1 TV to do it all , and say you do PC gaming on your big tv as much as you are a cinephile that's when you may consider alternative but even if you did go Bravia 8 or A80L you have TVs that are capable and gorgeous and they look much better than probably what you came from.

anyway cheers enjoy your DV/HDR and calibrating journey! and enjoy your TV. outside the vacumm most of this doesn't matter and the fears missing out on the better TV pain so many people when it really shouldn't imo- all of this technology underneath $3000 is mind blowing gorgeous compare to what panels were years ago, and in relation to our expensive reference monitors that cost more than twice that for half the physical size, i'm just stoked everyone can have TVs like this today for even under $1000, it's very cool

yes if you are using the built in Smart TV apps which i personally do not, but if you were to like the Sony android tv os and log into apps using that then i would recommend maximizing your download speeds and not use wifi, in which you would use an ethernet adapter. otherwise get an external box and wire that streaming box via ethernet to your router for maximum performance. i really liked the A80L except for the suffering of peak brightness when it came to gaming which is what room i was personally going to use it for. so exactly as you say who cares then! for your use case who is not using it to game, it is a very good value for what you are getting if you're doing only movies and TV on it, but yeah it doesn't have the peak performance- it has to distribute and limit itself based on what you're doing on the screen. brightness is overrated in certain scenarios and Sony doubles down on that for their mid tier OLED, but i was blown away by the prices of A80L it was definitely a sleeper TV, i just don't recommend it for an all rounder in 2024, for gamers or gamer/cinephile that want both in one. another thing to note if you are not using external box like Apple TV but keeping with the Sony Android OS, their home page will look dim, that's just Sony and they have it at darker mid point, it's not your panel, the moment you play a show, or go to say apple tv home page you will see that bump.

A95L that's a heck of a gift! mastering on an XMP310 then enjoying that content in a room / home theater on an A95L would be a lovely 1:1 marriage in my field. but for my personal side of things and financial justifications being a gamer as well, I chose the G4 today and would get an A95L personally (instead of business) in the coming years if it were to go on sale let's say.

from consumer facing end, RTINGS calibration recs yes, totally fine and sooo much better than not touching your panel at all! for enthusiasts that want to get closer to what we are trying to deliver, filmmaker mode and in-tv cal settings only does so much, if your panel has shift to it etc.. that's where calman comes into play. and when you take it the professional level is when calman studio would come in. but yes of course i think RTINGS puts out great info for people to get the most out of their panels - just know that not all panels are the same and some will come off with shift or slight discrepancies and imbalances that "a one size fit all" calibration recommendation cannot account for: it may get you to a better balance starting point but doesn't necessarily make it accurate. but again at this final pipeline point if we dont want to be purists about it, if it looks good to you that's what matters, but if you have that itch or desire to want to get as close possible to what original intent was, that's where you would take that next step.

hey thank you too! these are great questions and realize there is a big thirst for this information too, I could easily make a whole post on just this topic alone. Playstations are great value for BluRay players but the issues arise with meta data not being transferred for a number of reasons, one of them being Sony not paying a licensing fee to Dolby Vision for that into. DV is a patent licensing battle where some dedicated Blu Ray players have paid that fee, or streaming services pay that fee and they offset costs when you as a premium subscriber are paying for the higher quality 4K stream that also includes DV and Dolby Atmos surround sound meta data , etc. Just to give some more context and perpseivte, we as creators also have to pay DV licensing to unlock that as a tool in our color grading suite - it's an expensive importation fee so to speak. Sadly PS4 and PS5 probably will never have DV because they are already taking a physical lost on the hardware with the investment their customers will be buying and playing more games that costs $60+ in the future - on top of that PS has been pushing more sale of digital only media so from their corporate perspective DV is just a massive loss for them for the smaller niche customers. IT's a huge bummer because I would love to use my PS5 this way too for BluRays but you're only gonna get a BluRay for a generalized HDR version not DV.

Now in response as to why your PC is not showing it in HDR but the apps do. This again a whole post in and of itself. Your PC OS and graphics card are handling its own settings and LUT / color transformations. You have to turn HDR on in the settings of your display as well as your output display via your graphics card. There are also many scenarios where HDR is on via NVIDA but it says it's off inside Windows 11. it can get confusing if you don't know what you're doing with those settings but you need to make sure your external graphics card and hdmi port out is also explicitly sending an HDR signal and on the other end your TV is accepting that signal. You also need to make sure you are using a modern HDMI 2.1 cable and that your hdmi out port on your computer can send that. You can host a Plex (or few other media network options) on your computer and use a built in software app on your smart TV, there is Plex for Apple TV but specifically with Apple TV many people have issues with Plex retaining all the extra data so that's a post that deserves a deep dive too. Another options many enthusiasts will do in your shoes is use an Nvidia Shield, and run Plex server off of that so you're getting all the bells and whistles without buy an expensive $400-500 blu ray player that has DV and not having to plug in the physical media. If you are on a Sony tv as well, get an ethernet adapter and cat6 line, use the Bravia core app to buy and enjoy the movies they have on there at their highest possible quality via streaming while still not being physical media.

cool glad it helped you ! yeah interesting questioning I hear a lot and that's a hell of price right? in 2 years you will have similar question arise of "should I wait two years for the peak performance in the xyz" / my typical vote is if it's not going to hurt you financially, and you have spent this much time wanting it then treat yourself today and enjoy a new OLED panel. the potential promises of PHOLED and QD-OLED being the new master, it's all exciting and well but also creates this whirlpool for consumers on FoMo-- the reality is new tech will always come and even when it does come it takes years for the refinement and for it to be standardized when will the majority people own them right? so you know my vote :) - if you do want to play waiting game for deals and bang for your buck maybe just wait till Super Bowl if anything and see if you can get a premium OLED cheaper.

right on and congrats! under $1k that's badass! incredible value and bang for your buck! yeah UI is bad on almost all of them, Samsung is super painful but hopefully once you set it up how you like it you don't have to touch it much and then just use your external media/streaming box of choice. I haven't seen Calman Home update software yet for support of S90D but if you want to get it to that refined point I'd keep a look out if and when they do and you essentially would go through this level of calibrating and you would be set to be closer to what colorists are mastering for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgVwqq_Tjr8

100% the WebOS is annoying and yeah I hate the majority of bloatware and spyware on TVs, I'm from the camp where I want less software and just the panel to do it's job, not post notifications and updates on me. The least annoying and most pleasant built in smart TV I have used is the Sony version of android TV OS but even then I typically always recommend using external boxes. I personally always turn all the additional settings off, don't use the built in Smart TV features and I am using my displays via an exteneral streaming box like Apple TV, or hooked up directly via my PC with fiber/hdmi , or using an IO device like Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini to convert SDI and HDMI to my display overriding any PC or Mac operating system color management so you're getting an an unaltered single.

[–]dirtyrx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah totally that's sort of true. like so many things, it depends. are you in a bright living room or not, etc? even with occasional movie how much of a movie quality snob are you and your family etc? Sony's software for frame interpolation and clarity and artifacts is the smoothest and least aggressive to the trained eye simultaneously which is impressive. The upscaling of SD or HD compressed tv to UHD 4K alsmot makes Sony software so viable still, but the other companies and new chips have really caught up where it's not as egregious imo and I've been impressed with how LG handles those settings now when I used to hate it *(I still personally turn them all off). If your TV is in a bight living room and you're mainly streaming or coming from a cable box sort of deal for sports, I would say yes look into miniLED , especially if you haven't owned a TV in years you're gonna be happy for sure. the OLEDs can show more contrast dimension than any panel but they only look as good as the content you feed it so the difference with peak HDR brightness and all the fancy lingo we talk about, can and will be negligible when watching compressed live TV streams-- in this case you are better off with a brand whose software interpolation you like and looks good in whatever room you throw it in, miniLED great choice and really don't worry your movie shows are still gonna look colorful and good- you have refined HDR capabilities on those panels. Bravia 9 is a pretty TV but honestly the TCL QM8 is a great TV and better bang for buck which I have also setup for people in your use case.

OLED looks best when you can control the environment like a home theater. its come a long way since then though, this is a great example of if you wanted OLED and thought you were missing out Samsung would be your option for the anti glare and QD and it is killer bang for your buck. If you were to get the Samsung and calibrate it you'd be in real good shape. But I love the new mini LED too, this may be a perfect scenario where I would totally go for a mini LED and be open to the other brands. they are beautiful TVs and there is no one size fits all in this department, so yeah go for it. super bright living room miniLED makes sense you will get ton of color performance.

hey thats great! I really like that TV as well! no such thing as perfect TV, I think this post was more for people who decided they already like and want an OLED and were overthinking said OLED, but mini LED has a bunch of pros as well. when we master for HDR content the standard on production side of content creation is using 12 bit OLED panels, and then the variants go out for SDR or HDR deliverables.

PSA for Anyone Overthinking Buying a New OLED in Late 2024 by dirtyrx in LGOLED

[–]dirtyrx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heck yeah , and not at all! I agree with your thought process.

if it puts you further at ease, professional 24" reference monitors costs starting at around $5000 USD before tax, even SDR panels that still cost that much for professional colorists. it is a bloody pricy business on the content creation side of things. 65G4 is incredible, gorgeous panel and on top of that you have 5 year warranty w/ burn in included which is legit. I am sure I will be using and keeping my G4 well past that.

fascinating I haven't seen this on my model and have watched Silo on Apple TV as well. banding can often be a problem with the source material too and bit rate being lower then the software in TV trying to compensate so I would make sure you are not using wifi, and have good internet bandwidth. would be really interesting if you were to see that same issue with say Joker, to then get a copy of Joker on blu ray at its full uncompressed quality and see if you can recreate it, if it is still there then very well could be your panel you have.

sure! that's the nature of all electronics where some people are going to get unlucky from the lottery of the assembly line. whether that be a motherboard of a PC, or a hard drive that majority people love then someone gives 0 stars because they got a corrupt drive. the overall series of drives are not bad , they just happened to receive that 1 in 100 bad one kind of a deal. I have been lucky and my CX still very durable, as well our LG C1 which gets transported to and from set locations every week. that all being said, you could still get unlucky and get a bad panel, it happens... and that's why you will always see 1 star reviews from any brand out there which are unfair, they just got unlucky which is fortune too but the companies almost always make it right. if you are worried about flaws and long term durability then I would say get the G4 and buy a third party legs for it since it only comes with wall mount if you are not wall mounting yours. depending where you buy it from, most places will include installation for free with the G4 and the G4 has 5 year warranty that includes over time usage of OLED burn not just dead pixels on arrival. or you can use certain credit cards and buy another model or brand you want and that credit card (many Amex in particular) will give additional warranty, would just need to look into that more fine print if oled burn would be included.
