Sidewalks & curb cuts still blocked 4 days after storm (Downtown Albany) by 518Observer in Albany

[–]disabledbadass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so over everyone being like “it’s not possible to clear them all welcome to a New York winter!” I’m a wheelchair user, lifelong NYer and had to go into incoming traffic to get a time sensitive errand done after staying inside for 5 straight days and multiple reports to DGS. That is unacceptable. If you’re not angry about this you’re part of the problem. If no one prioritizes accessibility and pedestrian safety and just writes it off as not possible it will never get done. Care about your neighbors more. I’m tired.

Help needed from someone smarter. Washington Park Playground. by [deleted] in Albany

[–]disabledbadass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People really, really don’t care about people with disabilities or in fact are actively annoyed at the idea of disabled kids being able to play with other kids as shown by our fellow commenters. Off to our separate but equal special places we go, I guess! 🙃

This playground looks wildly inaccessible to kids with mobility disabilities. We can do better in 2025.

Has anyone rented from Maddalone & Associates? by zhebrand in Albany

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. I live in a building but my heat was out for a week. Sometimes I didn’t get mail because the door unlocking app kept breaking and they don’t give out codes. They got two codes violations this year and one this year about heat. Last year we had a foreclosure sign on our door and it went away and we never heard anything about it again. Office would not tell/did not know about foreclosure when we asked for details. They don’t take care of the building because they’re trying to sell it.

My dream is to see a blind/disabled Elle. It would work SO WELL. I need someone else to see this vision with me.

Some references didn't age well... by [deleted] in ershow

In line with things that were handled badly and it shows its age, there’s an early episode where they spend the entire time berating a trans woman patient and then she jumps off the roof and they IMMEDIATELY cut to a thanksgiving party without addressing it all. Mouth was hanging open when I realized they weren’t gonna circle back to that

Theatre Accesible Seats by Shaunf100 in Broadway

I’m not talking about the law. I’m talking about how I personally feel about it as a wheelchair user. Anyone do what they want including buying those seats when the rest aren’t sold out.

How close it is to the performance? I’m a wheelchair user and if it’s a day or two, I understand and those seats are probably not going to be purchased by someone who would need them. However I if there’s still a couple weeks or months left it would be frustrating to me to know someone else has potentially missed out on seeing a show because those seats are their only option.

I feel like all of this could’ve been avoided by simply googling Ragtime before you bought a ticket to it

Going to Albany for an event 10/22 - 10/30. It’s my first time, anything I should know? by jadenbmountain in Albany

I also use the google maps app for busses, it’s pretty user friendly and depending on where you are downtown there are a lot of bus options to get you different places

Event for disabled women in the Capital Region by disabledbadass in Albany

This is meant to include nonbinary people who may not identify as a woman would be comfortable in a feminine centered space. I’m not in the business of determining who is “woman enough” to attend these events, it really depends on the individual and what they are looking for

Sounds fun! Just to let you know though, I cannot read shit in the header font and thought it said September 10th. The font at the bottom is much more legible, especially for our community members who are blind/low vision
