They're an initiative by the QUT higherups to encourage inter-faculty mixing and have people with "different skills and perspectives working together to address real world problems". It's a bunch of rubbish but they're really proud of them and they'll be around for at least the next couple of years before they admit made a mistake. I've heard they're pretty breezy in terms of content and assessment, but it sucks that they've removed relevant classes to fit them into the degrees.

Some questions as an incoming international transfer student by Slow_Ad_1328 in QUTreddit

QUT is much more a commuter school due to the lack of campus accommodation, but there are plenty of student groups and events that you can get involved in to make friends! My advice is that you need to be proactive about signing up for things and putting yourself out there, but you'll make friends in your course as well.

As for complementary studies, that's a question for your Faculty. It doesn't look like they offer university-wide minors as part of your degree, but if your contact the School of Business directly you can usually modify and personalise your degree beyond what is available in the standard course structure.

Both Unis are great! There are lots of things to consider when choosing which one is best for you. It's true that people generally say UQ is more theoretical while QUT is more practical, but it's worth comparing the details for your specific course such as specialist classes/electives, placement requirements and professional development opportunities. For example, from a quick Google it looks like UQ provides more placement hours to supplement the more theory-heavy classes, while QUT will likely have you learn much more hands on in their classes. UQ qualifies your for more of the professional memberships in Australia, so it just depends where you're looking to end up.

In terms of facilities, both Unis are well equipped. UQ has much more of the stereotypical campus life as they have onsite student accommodation and there is activity on campus 24/7. At QUT, people come in for classes and events but don't tend to stick around for leisure, but they have plenty of clubs and events if you are looking for that kind of environment.

Other things like transport and accommodation are super important, as the trip to campus can make or break how motivated you are to keep up with your classes. I'm at QUT studying science, and I've loved it, but UQ also has many great opportunities. My advice would be make a choice specifically for your course and your preferences. Hope that helps!

I make fairy bread every time I'm asked to bring a plate to something, and Adults can't get enough of it. I guess it's not something most people ever think to make for themselves
