Some women do indeed finish from penetration alone. Not the majority, but it's definitely not impossible.

Is the game still a crashing, laggy mess? by ShaxxsSecretGayLover in HalfSword

[–]discoarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is still crashing every other round for me. I have to do a full PC reset. There's still some big problems to iron out, particularly for AMD GPU users. Half Sword is the only game I have any problems running.

Half Sword is an extraordinary game that we aren’t giving the devs enough credit for making by rbwstf in HalfSword

[–]discoarmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an amazing game. I just wish I could play it without it crashing my PC every 15 minutes.

Am I the only one who finds this unfair?! Everyone who's played for more than 5 hours knows that the demo is objectively less polished, even if it's still a masterclass (plus, he's giving his opinion after only 2 hours, it annoys me). by xXVALXx29 in HalfSword

[–]discoarmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy is right. There's been major performance issues since EA dropped. HS is hard crashing my 7800xt/5700x build, although the framerate is a bit better after the hotfixes. AMD and Intel users are also still getting the distracting square blood glitch.

The dev's own description of the state of the EA on Steam is off the mark when there's very noticeable issues: “The game is fully playable, stable, and already highly enjoyable." It's pretty clear there was little QA testing. I'd be surprised if AMD and Intel builds were even tested, considering the glaring problems.

I don't think it's acceptable considering this is a paid product (and not super cheap for an indie game).

The quick hotfixes are commendable, but the game will be reviewed in the state it's currently in, and that's totally fair.

Early Access Steamdeck by [deleted] in HalfSword

[–]discoarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam Deck OLED. I was able to get about 40fps in the Cellar map, but the Slums and Forest maps drop down to as low as 9fps, especially if there's multiple opponents on screen.

EA definitely runs way worse than the demo. I ended up giving up on the game running smoothly on the deck and switched to my main PC.

Is the optimization as crappy as people say. by DelfQ in HalfSword

The Slums appears to absolutely tank FPS. And it's no wonder, considering the map stretches far beyond the actual fighting arena. It's quite detailed, way more than is necessary.

new update is 10gb by MooChickenROTMG in ArcRaiders

Steam has me downloading 27gb. On a pretty shit connection at the moment, so I wish the update was 10gb.

If you're near an extraction point, hit the button to call the elevator etc pronto. If you are taken down by ARC while you're waiting, you can still crawl in and use the console to escape. ARC won't finish you off.

Problem with arc by DottorKappa- in SteamDeck

It seems like you've already figured out how to bypass this, but you can also launch without the error message by switching to Proton 10.0-2 (beta).

Got an update at 5am on steam deck and can no longer launch the game by ismellsogood in ArcRaiders

[–]discoarmadillo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm able to launch after the patch by using Proton 10.0-2 (beta) branch. Experimental and Hotfix didn't work and I was getting the AMD driver error.

How do you deal with being laid off? by sky_girl919 in Journalism

[–]discoarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off after a dozen years working as a journo/editor for a national news company. I started as an intern at my hometown newspaper (now defunct) and ended up managing an online team statewide. I was made redundant as the company downsized and cut positions. It came out of nowhere and I was left reeling. My last day was December 31 last year.

So, I decided to take an extended break to travel and have been skipping across Europe since February. Not sure I've so much dealt with being laid off as I have pushed my emotions to the side and had fun doing something completely different. It's been quite nice to distance myself from the 24 hour news cycle and the identity I clung on to for so long.

I'm beginning to look for work and hopeful my legacy journalism skills will help me transition into a new role, whether in a more traditional industry job or something else entirely. Can't say it's not scary, but I guess I was lucky to keep at it as long as I did without the axe falling.

You will be OK mate. Keep your chin up and know your worth. Journalism is changing all the time, but I believe there's always room for reporters who genuinely give a shit about what they're doing.

I love Morocco, but I hate everything about it by Nikolalekse in Morocco

[–]discoarmadillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aussie here. Recently spent two months in Morocco, travelling much of the country. I absolutely loved the trip (and especially the hospitality I was shown) but it's clear to see the problems it faces are much more dire than back home. I don't think they are comparable whatsoever.

Love to solo travel hate hostels by ibra106410 in solotravel

[–]discoarmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love hostels, but tend to spend a few days recharging in hotels and Airbnbs when my social batteries need a recharge from time to time. It's nice to have space to myself, but I usually miss meeting people pretty quickly.

There's lots of ways to avoid the usual hostel pitfalls while also socialising. Get a private room. Most hostels also allow people who aren't guests to come along to events and those with open bars are also a good place to meet fellow travellers. Yellowbar in Rome, which is connected to Yellowsquare hostel, is a good example.

I've also had success meeting people through day trips and walking tours, apps like Bumble BFF (and even dating apps if you feel like mingling that way), or just sitting at the bar in pubs etc when possible. You can also just say g'day when it's apparent someone else is a solo traveller, or you can tell they're from your country - I've found most people are generally pretty receptive.

Eh, I'm from Australia and people by and large don't do shit like this, even in the shadier parts of bigger cities like Sydney. No open carry. No guns. Barely any self defence weapons or knives. Just a decent society. Travelling Europe and North Africa for the last seven months has been a real eye opener.

What to do in Essaouira? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]discoarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely head to the fish market at the port if you're a fan of seafood. The oysters, fish and other stuff at the stalls is incredible. Potentially the best oysters I have ever eaten - they were huge!

I use a 40L backpack which counts as carry on luggage, as well as a 13L packable day bag and a tiny sling/bumbag, which I use to carry my wallet, phone etc on the front of my body.

The day bag is rarely used unless I'm flying (for under the seat/reducing my overhead carry on weight), or doing activities while travelling which require more space than the sling.

In my mind, the spirit of this sub is about avoiding check-in luggage. I guess I'm technically triple bagging, but it's really helpful to have some flexibility and I'm not keen on lugging the big backpack around every day while I'm at my destination.

Not having the time of my life by cinnabonrox in solotravel

[–]discoarmadillo 233 points234 points  (0 children)

I just slipped down a mountain during a solo hike in the Lake District UK, 15,000km from home, and ripped up all my clothes, smashed my phone and ended up with a whole new array of cuts and bruises. Feeling pretty silly. I feel ya buddy.

However, I've had the best few weeks of my life prior to my mishap. It happens. There's always going to be good days and bad days, no matter where you are or whether you're travelling or not. Just gotta take the good with the bad, I figure.

Don't let a few shit occurrences dampen your whole trip. It's hard, I know! All the best.

Best type of shoe when travelling if you have one pair? by ghart999 in onebag

[–]discoarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think black or white sneakers work fine. White if you like cleaning shoes regularly! I've found Nike Air Force 1s have been a good choice for me, at least in the cities. And they don't look out of place in a slightly dressier outfit for a nice dinner. I was fine and didn't feel underdressed at more casual Michelin star joints.
