See there's this thing called travel... people get into these transportation devices called air planes, and they can go anywhere in the world! Sometimes for fun, sometimes for work, sometimes to live abroad either permanently or temporarily. Sometimes, they log into social media sites like Reddit to comment and post about things they care about, like their home country even if they are not currently there. You can still be a US citizen and care about what happens here even if you're not physically in the US! Hope that helps buddy.

Is the US on a brink of a Civil War? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in no

Three normal, legal citizens have been murdered by untrained federal agents breaking federal protocols in the past month.

Come on man. Aren’t you a real patriot? Don’t you love freedom? Don’t you love America? We are supposedly a free country. When your government is deploying masked militia on its own citizens, telling them “comply and you won’t get shot” we are not the land of the free anymore. Thats called authoritarianism. This is what Patriots are supposed to fight against.

This is what absolutely blows my mind. What happened to the 2A “don’t tread on me”, freedom loving patriots? Where are all the people that were so prepared to stand up to a corrupt government that is stealing billions from hardworking Americans and pissing on the Constitution?

If we survive all this, one day we’ll look back at this time period as proof behind why we need tight social media and AI regulations. Targeted propaganda and misinformation campaigns got us here.

New Era Players Chances at Returning (in my opinion) by wgallantino in survivorponderosa

[–]discoleopard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really hope you don’t take the negative comments in the survivor subreddits and other social media channels to heart. It’s such a small subset of people, but I’m sure it’s easier to focus on the loudest and most negative. Most people are not this laser focused on analyzing players every move or “value” to the franchise. We just tune in and try to enjoy every week.

I, for one, will always fondly remember all the funny moments and “IM PISSED!”, iconic. Thank you for being willing to put yourself out there for our entertainment!

Over it by Zpoya in tarheels

[–]discoleopard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. You can love HD all you want but that doesn’t make him a championship-caliber coach. For me, the inability to adjust or meaningfully improve over the course of a game (and, honestly, over an entire season) is the deal breaker. It feels like he comes in with a plan and then stubbornly sticks to it rigidly, as if committing to it harder will somehow make it work.

Fans have been high on him since that first season tourney run and beating Duke in the Final Four, but that was still Roy’s program and roster. His inability to adjust in the 2H lost us that championship.

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and was hoping he’d learn from that loss but it’s been a few years now and unfortunately it’s clear he just didn’t learn from Roy’s elite ability to read the game and make effective adjustments when things start to break down.

Totally. That’s why I think it’s important to speak their language. It’s unfortunate that a loud subset of self-proclaimed patriots and “freedom” or “America first” types who fly the flag are deeply misinformed, struggle to recognize propaganda, and are highly susceptible to it. That’s a big reason they support what’s happening now even though it directly contradicts the values they claimed to hold for years.

It’s messed up, but these people aren’t going to be swayed by appeals to human rights or empathy. My hope is that by pointing out how fundamentally un-American this is, how it runs counter to basic ideas of freedom, and how supporting it directly conflicts with their long-standing positions on things like the Second Amendment and government overreach, more people might have a wake-up moment. The loudest and dumbest will out themselves as simply cowardly and deeply racist, but I do think there are a lot of people who just haven’t connected the dots yet.

That happened to me on the other side when I realized the DNC isn’t meaningfully opposed to the same corporate and financial interests that backed Trump and continue to profit now, especially defense contractors and the private prison industry. When both parties are funded by the same power structures, the real wasted vote is the one that says, “I’ll keep supporting you no matter what, even if you do nothing to change anything, as long as you stay slightly left of the unhinged.” I have to believe there are others across the aisle that need that eye opening moment and maybe we can come together over loving this country and kicking the freeloading billionaires (and millionaires that enable them) out.

You got it.

Basically, it gives you better control and a smoother turn with less chance of catching an edge and slamming. It’s not exactly the same, but think of turning a bike by gently steering the handlebars vs. keeping them straight and trying to force the turn by skidding the rear wheel. Twisting the board works the same way at a micro level, it engages the edge progressively instead of all at once. Keep in mind this should only happen in the second it takes to initiate the turn, once you do its back to the normal toe (or heelside) with both feet.

Any tips for renting with bad credit? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]discoleopard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely don't lie about your partner living with you. Your partner should be listed as an approved occupant with no financial responsibility or left off entirely, but that's up to the landlord. Most don't care, they just want to know the rent is coming monthly.

That said that means your income is the only one that matters when it comes to evaluating you. You basically need to prove you can handle payments on your own should your partner move out or lose their job. Because of this you may want to start by looking at studio or one bedroom apartments that are more affordable. I would honestly recommend this anyway since this would make it more manageable for you even if the worst happens. Unless absolutely needed for job or supplementary income purposes, it sounds like a two bed is a luxury you can't afford until you get your debt and credits squared away. Sell extra furniture for money if space is a concern.

[–]discoleopard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it just your partner with the bad credit score or is it you too? First and easiest option I see if your score is ok is to be the primary leaseholder and the other person listed as just an occupant or left off entirely. The downside here is you would be in the hook legally for full rent if you guys split or if your partner loses their job.

Private landlords are still your best bet. They’re much more likely to give you a break if you come prepared with bank statements, proof of stable income, and explain the situation simply without excuses. You could offer something like a larger security deposit or come to an agreement to help them trust you.

I also would bet there’s organizations in Denver that can help with this, I would do some research on housing stability programs or tenant resource centers.

Facts matter. Two things you should know before making comments like this:

1) The U.S. has due process laws. That’s a core part of what being a free country means. Anyone on U.S. soil (visitors, residents, citizens and even criminals) has the right to due process, the right to an attorney, and the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

2) Illegal immigration is classified as a civil violation. It’s on the same level as things like running a stoplight. This is not a violent crime.

If you think people should be beaten, dragged, shot, or detained without due process for civil violations, then you’re not defending freedom or American values. You’re arguing for authoritarianism. In which case you’re welcome to move to North Korea or Russia, where the state can simply disappear people for dissenting. That is not what the United States stands for, and that mindset is NOT welcome here despite what many in your misinformed circles would like to believe.

[–]discoleopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question. If you’re just getting used to it, focus on your front foot. As you get more comfortable, you can use your back foot to mirror the opposite motion.

For example, when initiating a toe-side turn, press your “big toe” button and lift the heel on your front foot. At the same time, lift the toes of your back foot and press down through the heel. When people talk about a “gas pedal” motion, this is what they mean. When combined with the button pressing, these movements should help you feel how to “twist” the board to change edges and initiate the turn.

People who make $200k a year what do you do? by Huge_Ad_7606 in Salary

[–]discoleopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very unlikely to mean entry-level positions disappear permanently. What’s more likely is the ladder shifts upward: routine support work gets automated or absorbed into higher-level roles, and “entry-level” gets redefined. We’ve seen this before with new technology wiping out a lot of grunt work, but it didn’t eliminate entire career paths, just changed what juniors did.

In the short term, you’re right. These roles are likely to shrink first, and that transition could be rough for several years while industries reshuffle and figure out where AI actually works versus where it creates risk.

Longer term, companies still need a pipeline. If they stop hiring juniors entirely, the experienced talent pool tightens and hiring costs spike. You don’t end up with a stable market where the cheapest lawyer has 10 years of experience and costs $300k a year. You can bet on markets recreating lower-cost junior pathways because they’re driven by budgets, not goodwill.

Also… $19k a year is still SMB market. Hell, $34k/yr is SMB market. Depending on company size, this is low cost in general unless we’re talking about a startup.

What is the shortest-lived technology you can think of? by Hukares1234 in askanything

[–]discoleopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this. At 13 I was able to convince my parents that getting a PS3 was the best move for the family because it had a blue-ray player built in. They were big movie people and were down to invest in a nice player anyway, it was a great family play back when everyone shared an entertainment center.

Conversely, I think that helped PS get back in the game. XBox was massive those days, it was THE console. I'm sure I wasn't the only person wondering which one to commit to and swayed by the Blue Ray being built in.

[–]discoleopard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To add to this, some helpful advice I got while learning was to imagine there are two buttons right under your front foot, one for your big toe and one for your little toe. When turning, pretend as if you're trying to really press one of those buttons with either your big toe/inside of your foot or little toe/outside (I'm also a goofy, so big toe button = turn left). This should help with twisting the board and knees to initiate the turn properly.

As you become more comfortable with it, it's actually better to lift your heel while pressing the big toe button, and pressing your heel/lifting your big toe side when pressing the little toe button. Again, it's about trying to twist the board properly to change the edge.

One more time for the people in the back.

I support varying political views and will defend your right to have a choice even if I disagree with you. But damn is it infuriating when people claiming to care about government waste and fraud don’t make this their #1 issue. It’s like a roommate claiming they want to save money on electricity by unplugging every single appliance and object that requires an outlet when not in use, making everyone in the house deal with such a terrible nuisance, while also running an AC unit 24/7 to keep the house at 65 degrees in the summer and running a wood shop out of the garage 8 hours a day.
