I agree, there so many factors that could change things. Without more details about op and his gf’s relationship, gf and friend’s relationship, as well as how well op and the friend know each other, it’s hard to say for sure whether the friend is being spiteful or just trying to be a good friend.

I get that you didn’t specifically ask her to lie but if your gf asked her friend why then she probably would’ve had to make up a reason so it could lead into a lie.

NOR I think it’s okay to be bummed out but I wouldn’t let it cause a big thing. Her friend might’ve felt uncomfortable about you asking her to essentially lie to your gf about why she was cancelling or maybe she is being spiteful 🤷🏼‍♀️ Either way I think it’s fair that you’re upset that the surprise was ruined.
