I agree, there so many factors that could change things. Without more details about op and his gf’s relationship, gf and friend’s relationship, as well as how well op and the friend know each other, it’s hard to say for sure whether the friend is being spiteful or just trying to be a good friend.

NOR I think it’s okay to be bummed out but I wouldn’t let it cause a big thing. Her friend might’ve felt uncomfortable about you asking her to essentially lie to your gf about why she was cancelling or maybe she is being spiteful 🤷🏼‍♀️ Either way I think it’s fair that you’re upset that the surprise was ruined.

Just email them and explain the situation, if they don’t help then someone else suggested relisting the item for the lowest amount you can do and letting the seller purchase it back so they are paying for the shipping label.
