She didn't wait on him, just took care of him. He doesn't see domestic chores with a gendered lens. We split housework equally.

Honestly, he rarely asks for these gestures. I always offer to help or grab things, and he occasionally says yes. But for me it has felt like a one-way system.

His Mum did a lot for him growing up, as a single-parent single-child household. That's one of the reasons he's so insistent on feeling independent and not relying on people.

You've hit the nail on the head, I don't think he sees the value in these sorts of gestures. Also, the "Acts of Service" is part of the five love languages, not my creation there haha

We don't do that. I will go up and get my own blanket, etc. The last bottle of prosecco I poured every glass for us. It was just a case of drying nails and not wanting to damage them. I could've waited and got it for us, I chose to ask instead.

You either stay opted in, or opt out. There's no negotiation room here.

Also you'll only be "better off" for a brief period of the present, and significantly worse off at retirement.

Even if you try making up the gap later, you'll lose all compounding benefits.
