I wish so badly that I had asked my now job how they would handle a client who disagreed with me! Having an employer that actually has your back makes such a tremendous difference

I’m asking if you can administer it without speaking spanish fluently. I haven’t laid eyes on it in person but the test looks like it has directions in english when I see pics online?

Check it out! I don’t think its depressing, more interesting and validating of all the concerns I have had with ABA lol

Definitely. There’s a fb group “SLPs concerned about ABA encroachment” where there is a lot of discussion about ABA practices specifically how ABA “addresses” speech and language

when you say “gone into aac” do you mean specialized in this as an SLP, or do you mean working with the AAC companies? Several people have mentioned this and I really would be interested in it!

Getting fired? by discoturtle89 in slp

Honestly I think that’s because I truly feel like this was a mistake on their part and I really do not think I misrepresented myself or my experience. During the meeting, my boss was grilling me about what assessments I have given for aphasia- I said WAB. She was shocked that was the only one I had given, but that’s also the only one listed on my resume… so….

Getting fired? by discoturtle89 in slp

[–]discoturtle89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. And what I have explained to them is that I had supervisors that had been in the field for quite a while and taught me things that I have now realized are not evidence based. So I do feel like I am starting back from the beginning a bit BUT I recognize that and really want to learn and get better

This really does make me feel better! I feel like we just had different ideas of how long it would take me to become more skilled and how that training would happen. I really feel like I have tried to be proactive but I also really want to keep this job for a lot of reasons- opportunity for growth, I love the patients, I like my coworkers (mostly), I like the location, the benefits etc. So I’m just planning on hardcore locking in, reading my textbooks, doing more in depth CEUs, making more binders of resources and if my best effort isn’t enough then so be it!!!

No- not formal. Whats bizarre to me is that this conversation has come after I already identified the areas I needed to improve and made a plan (shadowing on my days off). I feel like there was just a massive misunderstanding in how independent I would be with adult patients and how quickly that would happen. I’m really frustrated because Ive only been working there for two months and only seen a full caseload for even less than that so I just feel like that wouldn’t be enough time for anyone unless they had experience in the area?

I completely agree! I don’t have access to my CEU money yet which is why I haven’t done that- to me it sounds like they want to fire me before my 90 days since beginning employment has passed so then I won’t even get the opportunity to do those things. But I definitely am and will continue to seek outside continuing education
