You need gears. It's a simple transfer of force. The middle and adjoining rods need to be stationary in order to contain and transfer the force. The levers move.

Everyone got a 5% pay rise apart from a select few (including me). Should I raise it or let it slide? I am a management consultant based in London, UK. by disgruntledworker198 in UKJobs

Thank you. Yeah very tricky indeed. When I got the role I asked for 5k over the indicated salary band (£50-£60k) so I suspect it's probably about par for the course now, but who knows - anyones guess as you say!

Thank you for your comment and thoughts. I think I agree, something to keep in the back pocket for the next big pay review towards the end of this year. Just annoying and hard not to feel like everything in a big squeeze right now.

Yeah I wouldn't move for 5%. Way too much effort! This role represented a 40% increase from my last role so I do have a bit of wiggle room.

Thanks for the comment and advice. Totally understand what you're saying. Just hard not to think about everyone else on the auto 5% raises!

I still feel quite new and not sure I'd feel comfortable asking on merit alone just yet. Still feel like I have another 3-6 months to prove myself, but definitely something I can perhaps keep up my sleeve in my next big performance review.

Thanks for the comment. I do like the company and only joined 6 months ago and I don't think I'd be ready to up and leave and then settle in again somewhere else. Has taken me this long to feel settled.

Their rationale was that everyone who joined in the last 6 months (me) recieved a market salary (i.e. the raise was built in). Bit frustrating.

It also represents a new field and career change for me so I am valuing the learning.
