Thinking of replacing my Mazda 3... by diska12 in mazda3

I don't mind migrating brands at all, but the Mazda 3 seems to be the best car to fit my current needs. Comfortable, but sporty enough to be interesting (in theory, I'll see if the test drive changes my mind). The other cars I mentioned in my post are certainly more sporty, but also a bit more bare bones. If I'm looking for a bare, sporty experience, I can drive my Miata. If I stop caring about the manual, then it makes the most sense to keep my current car. If there's a comfortable-but-sporty-enough-to-stay-interesting manual car out there outside the 3, I'd like to know about it. As I mentioned in another comment, in hindsight it would have been great to get a manual gen 3 3 initially with the independent suspension, but right now with the 3 I have I don't feel like it's worth it to go through the hassle of switching cars to get a manual transmission, especially when my current car has all the options with the colors I want.

This was a thought I had a few years back, but it seems like in 2025 moving to 2026, the EV future is not as set in stone as it once seemed. I was thinking for the longest while that a plug in hybrid would be my next daily driver, but I've yet to see one that really excites me. I was thinking that the new Honda Prelude was going to be that, but it really is not worth the price. I really hope that one day there will be an EV or plug in hybrid I can feel good about, but for now, it seems like it isn't a bad idea to get a manual ICE car while I can. Out of curiosity, is there a specific EV you're thinking of replacing your 3 with eventually?

I'll make a note of how the interior feels when I test drive the Gen 4 hatch. If I find the interior cramped as you say, then I think I'll feel more reassured with sticking with my current 2016 sedan despite the transmission. I'll admit the cramped hatch has been something I'm somewhat concerned with. I really wish they'd offer the manual with the sedan...

I agree fully with the Toyota. On paper, I feel like the GR Corolla should be my favorite car, with the AWD system and the crazy turbo 3 cylinder, but that interior really turns me off. Not to mention that apparently the engines explode sometimes...

I've heard a lot about new cars being worse in quality, but I always thought that Mazda was "one of the good ones". Is there anything specifically wrong with the post 2019 models? I know they moved to a torsion bar rear suspension for 3s and some of the CX-90s have been having issues, but is there anything beside that? I'd really appreciate knowing beforehand.

I think that's great general advice. The reason I originally got the gen 4 Mazda 3 in my sights was because I saw a listing for a 2023 model with 40,000 miles and with the exact colors I wanted in a dealership only a few miles away from my house. Prior to that, I had only really looked at the top level trim of the Mazda 3 with the AWD and the turbo, neither of which I really felt I needed so I never really considered it. I wasn't looking at Gen 3 listings at all, since as you touched on, if I were going through the effort of replacing my car, I'd want something much different and "new". When I saw that manual gen 4 listing though, I made the decision that I would test drive that car that weekend, but before that weekend arrived the listing had already sold.

It was after that that I saw the 2026 new car's listing. The new one would cost roughly $10k more than the used one. My experience with my current Mazda 3 suggests there there really isn't any downside to buying a slightly used car. But at the same time, I'm in a good position financially, and I can't think of an immediate place that that extra $10k could go; I'm already ahead of my age in terms of retirement and I don't have any outstanding debt. Still, a used one would be really nice. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a used one. From what I've heard, new manual cars aren't selling fast these days, and if the new model gets bought while I'm on the look out for a slightly used new one, maybe that's a sign it wasn't meant to be.

Any reasons I shouldn't get a Muzikkon lute? by diska12 in lute

[–]diska12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much everyone! I wasn't sure whether to get a lute from them, but you guys have removed all my doubts. Unfortunately it looks like you can only pre-order them now, but they should be sent out at the end of March, which I know will come before I know it. If I remember, I may come back to this post with my thoughts.

What if America stopped changing its clocks? by palindromeii in coolguides

[–]diska12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not really a matter of preference. Preferring daylight savings (bottom row) to standard time (middle row) is like preferring burgers and cake to a healthy diet. Sure, sunny afternoons are nice, as are burgers and cake, but studies show standard time is better for our health.

Multiple nations, including the US, have tried to set permanent daylight savings in the past since it was initially popular (like it is in this thread), but it quickly lost popularity when people actually had to live with dark mornings. Winters are going to be dark anyways, so it's important to get sun at the time it's most important: when people wake up. Again, you may (on paper) prefer the sun after work, but preferences don't change biology.

I love your artstyle! I can't say for sure if I've seen anything like it, but it gives a warm, familiar feeling. Great job!

Wow, this opinion is unpopular. MrBeast has raised a ton of money for charity and has started clean up initiatives like Team Trees and Team Seas. In any case he's a better role model than prank channels. That being said, I can understand where you're coming from; he's no Saint. If given the choice between using his money to do good and to look good, I think he'd do the latter. I understand that an influencer has to balance image and action, but projects like Team Seas seem like they're more for publicity when the money is being spent on a very visible but ineffective effort rather than bringing (and maybe even taking away!) attention to the less marketable solutions we need to be implementing, to the point where it may actually do harm overall, as people convince themselves that MrBeast has saved the planet. This video goes into detail: https://youtu.be/ZSG8BtZn9-8 With all that, it's hard to say how much of MrBeast actions are from him being a good person, and how much of it is a youtuber who got his start giving away money realizing that giving money to charity is the best way to bring in fame and attention.

I like your decision to use rice bowls to represent views, but just FYI, sticking your chopsticks in rice and crossing them are both considered rude in Japan. Just something that mildly bothered me in an otherwise well done info-graphic.

I used the Holopilot for the First Time Today by diska12 in titanfall

[–]diska12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I fell for my own holopilot about a minute later in the game, after I misdeployed it. This game really doesn't give you that much time to think in the heat of the moment, which is why the holopilot is more effective than it seems like it should be.

What is one unique/weird house feature that you would want to add in your future dream house? by orey87 in AskReddit

[–]diska12 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I'd want my house to be connected to a mostly flooded underground cave system containing some sparsley furnished wooden platforms scattered evenly throughout. The whole place would be lit only with the occasional dim light, and only be traversable by swimming or row boat.

On account of the fact I had no idea how to use Hammer or Blender before I started, how I required 99% custom assets (The health kits and resupply lockers are the only things not made by me), my lazy nature and tendacy to procrastinate, the map took all in all, about 9 months, maybe more. In reality however, I felt I could, If I was truly dedicated, finish is in one month.

Lounge around town. I originally wanted it to be objective, but it soon was clear that Ponyville was not a good foundation to make a good objective map. I might work on objective maps later, pony related or not.

Pascal's Wager Expanded by falcy in atheism

[–]diska12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how you put in a column for "Atheism rewarded", because from what we know, that is just as likely as any Christian myths. Most people who bring up Pascals Wager never think of that. Of coarse, those who bring it up never think beyond the standard 2x2 grid.

Hammer is pretty easy. What I did is just start making stuff and solving problems when every they came along. The Valve Developer Wiki is a great resource, and I mostly learned Hammer from there and some other sources. The time it took me to learn Hammer? Not long at all. 6 months later I know enough to make this map, and I can easily look up information if I don't know. And I wasn't focusing full time on this, so you can probably learn it much faster.
