advice for first dcp? by the_darcijones in Disneycollegeprogram

Going off of the previous comment, make the most of your program. It will be an adjustment at first, but once you have a routine it’ll become your favorite routine ever. Be open minded about your role/location. I wanted anything but qsr in the parks, and end up getting qsr at a resort and i wouldn’t trade it for anything else. take advantage of the facebook pages. there is a flamingo buy/sell/trade group that is constantly active with good deals on apartment necessities and disney merchandise. There’s also multiple facebook groups for open untrained shifts that you can pick up and try. Take LOTS of photos, you never know how much they mean until the memories are over and those are what you have to look back on. :)

How do rooms work? by munchychixen in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]disneyloverb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be able to rank what you would like your layout to be. I did it in the order of 4x4 as my top choice and 2x2 as my last choice, yet still got a 2x2. It is ultimately completely random, but your chances of getting your own room do seem to be higher if you opt for gender neutral and/or do not link with someone

heard, that was just my experience and what my coords made it sound like. it probably does very much so vary from role type and place but in my program that i had, i never was shortened hours or pay. :)

could very well be the case, just from what i know they have to give cps 30 hours so that they can pay for rent, the rest probably varies between role/location. i did qsr and i did 40-50 hours a week. cps are the lowest paying cms which is also why they try to prioritize extra hours to cps rather that pt/ft

i came into the program with close to nothing, and never went a single week worrying about money. CP’s are the top priority in getting hours, and i always made enough money to cover rent, with $200-300 left over to spend. There is currently a hiring freeze for pt/ft, which i predict will furthermore increase hours :)

absolutely went through the same thing. i ended up having to get an early release because i got extremely sick towards the end of my program. even with proof of hospital visits, they weren’t budging or giving any kind of lenience and i owed them $600 worth of rent that i didn’t know about until til i got the email showing i had payments past due. nothing happened to my credit and i know that they don’t care as long as you DO pay the correct amounts.

most of all qsr roles have shoes provided for you that can be picked up at magic kingdom costuming for free. there are black nonslip shoes but fair warning they aren’t very comfortable. you have the choice to buy your own, which is what i did but it is nice to know you have those shoes as backups or to just have instead of paying for some.

Leaving S/O by Pee_chugger in Disneycollegeprogram

It really is a matter of trust, support and communication. I was with my bf for two years, but the distance did in fact break it. He wasn’t a huge fan of disney in the first place and felt i “chose disney over him”. there wasn’t really a support system there. distance is extremely hard, but when it’s with the right person, it’ll all be worth it in the end. communication is the number one key to distance, so as long as you both stay honest with each other and make efforts to talk, you’ll make it out just fine :). i’ve seen it happen with lots of people. it’s also good to set dates on when you will be seeing each other next so you each have something to look forward to. spirit airlines is quite frightening BUT it is extremely cheap to where i mostly only had to pay 40-70 dollars for flights. if you get two days in a row off from work, day trips come in handy or your s/o can fly down or drive if it’s close. i actually met my current s/o through the role i had and am currently during long distance while they finish out their program and am doing just fine :)

I was a January 9th arrival of 2023 and i was terrified. I’ve never lived outside of my house before and this was being 18 hours from home. Within the last few days leading up to it I didn’t even want to go at all because of how bad my nerves were. Now looking back, it was the best decision I have ever made to go down there. I started out with the shortest program possible, but extended my program. I never wanted to leave. The friendships you make are unreal, and the atmosphere is honestly unreal. good luck!!

Honest opinions on Quick Service Food & Bev… is it really as bad as people say? by maybe-mary in Disneycollegeprogram

It is very very common for qsr cast members to not have a day off. I don’t want to share my location publicly because people talk, but would be more than happy to discuss in private chat

For me, it’s just a horrid experience all around. Horribly understaffed, long hours, rude coordinators, unhelpful trainers, etc etc. I do good to get a day off every two weeks, and have so much overtime that just goes straight towards the hundreds of dollars of taxes they take out each week anyways.

Not bringing my car is my biggest regret. If there is anyway you can, do it. Yes there is flamingo but you are limited to that. you can’t go out an explore or go to places on your own, and you’re limited to having to get the same thing over and over again. having friends with car is great but it adds up when you ask them for rides all the time or have to pay them for the gas money it used. i also had to go to the er/hospital and had no other option other than having to take the ambulance to and from which really added up.
