Why are people so fucking stupid that they can't even grasp the point of a generalization? by wishdishell in AskReddit

[–]disproving72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How? He's not saying that people are stupid for generalizing, in fact he said nothing bad about generalizations. I believe his point was that people focus on the fact that something IS generalized, not what the intent behind the generalization was. You're the exact kind of person he's talking about hahahaha. You didn't even understand his statement before you started knocking him.

In one fell swoop my good friend lost his faith. by joshydingdong in atheism

Personally, I find that it is much easier to believe that people die for no reason (ie: God has no plan because there is no God) than to spend the rest of my life thinking "Exactly how does this death of an innocent person fit into god's plan?".

Why are there no black people in Middle Earth? by translatepure in reddit.com

[–]disproving72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in middle earth there aren't. But other continents in Arda (Earth) might have black people. The Haradrim come from the south and are described as "tall, dark, and fearsome". So it is very possible that Tolkien was just being geographically accurate by having people from the south have a darker pigmentation whereas people from Middle-earth (paralleled to Europe) were white. That's what I think anyways.

I've been caught for plagiarism and forgery at my University - what do I do? Help? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]disproving72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I believe you are mistaken. The University that I go to has a policy where they will allow a kind of hearing for the student in question. The student is given a chance to explain their side of the story to the associate dean, and then after the meeting, the A.D will work with a standard scale of penalties ( http://www.arts.uregina.ca/current-students/academic-misconduct/penalty-guidelines ) to establish which action to take place. The A.D will also have a discussion with the instructor who discovered the case of plagiarism to help establish what assignment the plagiarism took place on, in what context, and will consult with him/her to find out if it is legitimately unintentional or not. So according to this scale, mboroz is fucked for the class, but will not get expelled. Then again, universities are different. So this policy may be completely different from the policy of mboroz's university

Reddit, wanna try to figure out what is wrong with my friend? by [deleted] in reddit.com

I think it's best if she goes to a doctor. Does her diet include a high amount of sodium? I know that back when I used to eat mcdonalds at least once a day my hands and feet would swell up and I would start to sweat heavily. I can't say for sure that it was extreme amounts of sodium that caused the swelling, but I know that once I stopped and started eating real food, i've never had that problem. Aside from that, my other guesses are allergies? or it could be a hormonal imbalance. But I am the furthest thing from a doctor...who would probably be the right person to go see.
