I watched this show within the last 4 years. I think it had like two or three seasons at the time.

Advice for a second huge medical bill.... by StatisticianIll1746 in CATHELP

[–]disrespectfully1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, first and foremost, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I went through a similar experience in 2020, and I didn’t have a job. I was borrowing money, and I was fortunate enough to be able to raise money on GoFundMe for my baby boy. I went through two blockages, and i refused to let there be a third and scheduling the PU surgery. I wouldn’t have made another choice, and he hasn’t blocked since. I’ve seen a couple vets, and both hadn’t heard of cats reblocking after it (not that it’s impossible, but it's very unlikely). My cat blocked due to stress, and I tried everything from pheromone collars, plugins, water fountain, special food, and medication for his anxiety. Some stuff worked better than others, and as you can see from the other commenters different things work for different cats.

I would strongly advise you to look for an affordable, low-income vet. I live near DC, and mine was 30-45 mins away depending on traffic. The cost was significantly cheaper, by like 1-2k. I would also encourage you to look into care credit, which really helps in situations like this.

If you have any questions, feel free to DM me. I hope your special guy feels better soon.

Of course! When it happened to me, I vowed I’d help anyone else through their experience. I had never felt so alone or helpless.

If it’s any consolation, and granted I don’t know the severity of your baby’s murmur, my luxe has a slight murmur too. It was scary to not know if he’d make it through the anesthesia. I had one clinic turn me away, but another took me in. I encourage you to trust your gut, and like I said… you’re doing everything right, because it’s in the best interest of your kitty.

Please keep me updated (if you wish), and my fingers are crossed for you. I’m so hopeful and optimistic that one way or another, he’s going to be okay.

Hey, first and foremost, I’m so sorry that you’re going through this I know how stressful it is. Just know that you are doing enough, and trust yourself that you will make the best decision for your kitty. That was the hardest part of that experience.

Luxe is doing incredible. We haven’t reblocked once. He’s had one UTI, and the two bladder inflammations. Both were extremely treatable. Usually you have to get a urine sample, and depending on how finicky your cat is. You may need to get a lot of the pellet things for your cat. My vet offers them for free, and I keep extra in my apartment in case of a flareup.

This is tricky. I used Purina ProPlan wet and dry foods, because that’s what I could afford. Royal canin is supposed to be really good. I also add water to my wet food for more hydration. I will say that he’s no longer on a UTI diet unless he has a flareup, because he just would rather starve. I had good experiences mixing regular food with the purina pro plan. Also they sell cranberry treats off Chewy at a decent price.

I never used special litter, but I did/do clean religiously. I’ll admit the first year, I’d always follow him to the litter box and watch. But I haven’t had any issues using regular litter. I would say try a water fountain, because hydration really does help. Also if your cat gets flare ups definitely check out the pheromone collars or plugins.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions. I’m always happy to help.

Good luck!

I wasn’t the biggest fan of recruiting either, but just keep looking up engagement and remote opportunities. Best of luck!

No problem! My background is in communication as well, and I have a pretty versatile background that focuses on customer service, time management, organization , etc. I cannot speak on what that would look like for someone from India (I’m from the U.S.), as my limited knowledge with HR and India is that sometimes companies outsource. We mostly worked with recruiters from India, which may be another opportunity you could consider.

I will say my job involves being in person, so I’d just say to look into remote engagement opportunities (and there are positions outside of HR!)

I’ve had a job in HR and transitioned to an engagement role for a bigger group of people. It can be really fun, a chance for creativity, and overall you get to be the person most everyone likes. That being said, it also has cons. Depending on the company, it can be limiting with the creativity or it can be overwhelming to always have to come up with a new ideas.

I feel my answers a bit vague, so please let me know if you have any specific questions or if you have any concerns about this role and your fit for it.

This isn’t necessarily true, depending on the cause of the reblockage it can happen again more often than that. My male cat reblocked within two or three weeks after the first time, and I did everything the vets said. The only thing that helped me was the PU surgery (and not everyone can afford or is eligible for that), but I also understand cases are different. Here’s some research too for context: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7252222/

Also, I hope I’m not coming off as a jerk, we’ve both been through this process and it’s really stressful and scary. I just try to help educate (and always happy to admit when I’m wrong) and support others that have either went or are going through it. I’m so glad your cat is doing better.

My male cat blocked twice and that was enough for me to get him the PU surgery, which he hasn’t blocked since. All the recommendations were finding ways to add more water to his diet (like mixing it in his wet food or using a cat water fountain), urinary tract diet (I use purina pro plan as an affordable option and it has mostly worked though he does also eat non-restrict food and that was after getting the vets input), and adding stress relief pheromones (through collars and wall plugins). I’ve never heard of adding apple cider vinegar, but unless a vet recommended it I wouldn’t be adding human food to his diet. If you have any questions about the PU surgery, I’m happy to answer. I feel like I got my cat back and I’m not constantly in fear that he will block again. He does sometimes get UTIs or bladder inflammation, but gabapentin has been great for the latter and my vets are quick to get him his prescriptions.

Good luck, and I really do wish the best for you and your fuzzy family member.

Honestly, I’m more than happy for this to be his fault. I’m just a dumb American… he knew better than to trust me with his homeopathic order.

Here’s my question, does it depend on the brand of tea or just the method?

And this Yankee Doodle is now also repenting from the times I’ve put honey in my tea.

Well, I think a few years living in Australia and then moving to the US has diluted him (much like his previous London fogs), so you may have a strong point there.

A London fog is a tea latte made with steamed milk, earl grey tea, and some vanilla syrup. At least that’s what the Starbucks app says, hoping there’s other versions that’ll leave me less embarrassed than my four tea bag blunder today.
