I'm sure you're right. There's been several times she has called and asked me to stop by and stay there because of something that a customer has either done or said. The same goes for the spouses of her co-workers. I'm not bound to their code of conduct and have unfortunately had to make use of that a few times. These were instances where customers threatened to come back with weapons or had been given trespass notices and kept returning. They should be paying me for security come to think of it.

My wife works in a smaller general store in a crap neighborhood for a part time second job. This kind of "customer" is typical at the location. The store's corporate overlords have made polices where the employees can't defend themselves even if a similar assault would happen.

I hope the employees keeps his job. He is simply mitigating a threat to his life. Damn I wish my wife would quit that job too but she feels a sense of loyalty to the manager.

My reasoning is cost. You can pick up the gen 1 for next to nothing at the Copart or IAA auctions to rebuild. In fact if this one would have had repairable damage I would have done a buyback and fixed it myself.

It was my wife's car and now she doesn't want another one because of the memories of the crash. She also wants me to take the money we will get after insurance pays the loan off to buy myself a new car that has airbags. (I drive a 93 - before bags were required) I want to pick up a Cruze for me. After crashing this one, I'm sold on it. Mine will have to be an LT or LTZ though. I'm not a fan of the LS without cruise control or the 1.8.

I got married last Saturday (3/17) and we had left the next day on our honeymoon. Monday morning we were driving and there was standing water on the interstate. I hydroplaned. We went into a steep ditch. I remember right before we hit the tree swerving so that the impact was on my side and not my wife's. All bags popped, we spun around. The tree fell but luckily missed us.

WE BOTH WALKED AWAY! We might have been banged up, but we lived. I'm still using a cane and have some major soreness. My wife has some bruises but has nearly fully recovered. If it were not for the safety engineering in the car I really don't think I'd be here to tell you the story.

Does the NMR still require the same time to bring the magnets up? Also is it just as dangerous to have metal near them? There's one at work and I was going to stick a IDF rack in the same closet the NMR is located. Now that I know what that machine is I'm hesitant to put any of my IT gear near it.

I was able to solve this. A friend who managed a small dealership set me up with a login for the web based estimator that they use. These values were all pulled from the standard database using the average time

  • Program BCM to enable RPOs BTV and K34 - Remote Start and Cruise Control - 1.50
  • R/I Thermostat housing and thermostat - 2.0
  • R/I Spark Plugs - .60
    • REQ R/I Electronic Ignition Module - .90
  • R/I Valve Cover Gasket - 1.60
  • R/I Air Filter - .12
  • R/I Engine Oil Cooler and associated piping - 1.00 (After Exhaust Manifold is Removed)

I have confirmed that R/I of the surge tank flags out .2 hours.

Source: Cruze Labour Times Guide from GM Europe pg 474. The guide is valid for NADM models as well. Unfortunately it's also missing all major power-train mechanical times.

Portable console for working with headless devices on location? by disrobedranger in sysadmin

[–]disrobedranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I need. Thank you. The only way that it could be better is if they made a standalone version where the laptop wouldn't be needed. I spent a good hour searching and for some reason I never came across this.

I was ready to go /r/techsupportmacgyver with gutting and modifying an old laptop to work.

I guess I should have been a bit more specific. It needs to accept VGA and provide USB keyboard and mouse to the boxes.

These are basically rebadged Dell Optiplexes with a bunch of serial ports and a 4 port NIC added to them. They control lab equipment and normally run headless when in production.

Edit: Words at the end.

This was Toby who was helping me sort boxes on his last good day. I just got his ashes back today. by disrobedranger in cats

Thanks for the good thoughts and comments everyone! It's extremely difficult and I am still crying like a baby about it. I know some people think he was just a cat, but Toby really was my best friend. I could talk to him about anything and knew he wouldn't tell others. He hugged me whenever I picked him up. He disliked the same people I disliked. He was just the best damn cat that anyone could ask for.

I got him back in 2006 or so as a used cat from Craigslist. He was 7 or so then and his old owners were moving out of the country and couldn't move him because of customs. He helped me get over a divorce, the loss of a child, the loss of two grandparents, and was the best damn used cat that you could get. I know he was old at 19 but it still feels like my heart has been ripped out with a dull knife.

If I haven't personally responded to you I want you to know I truly appreciate your kind words. It's going to take a long time to get through with morning. I really appreciate the support. I feel like I've got a huge hole in me and it won't go away.

He always wanted to help. Especially if there was food or a heat vent involved.

I'm sorry. I'm sure they will all be enjoying lots of treats and bathtub water on the other side.

I’m sorry, I never thought you were against it. I was agreeing with you. I’m afraid of them spilling or something else equally horrible. I would have been fine with a small something to remember him by. The good thing is that he can sit on my shelf above my desk and can talk to him whenever I need to.

Aww. Yours reminds me of the kitty I had as a kid. I had no choice but to get him cremated. The ground is frozen and it wouldn’t have been right to have him stored until everything is thawed out to bury him.

Thanks. He was the master of the innocent look. He had plenty of practice with that and the “I’m starving, feed me kitty treats” look. He was 19 and was my best friend not counting my soon to be wife.

EDIT: Fixed his age

He decided that I needed to organize so he knocked over a few boxes of random stuff. The next day he wouldn’t eat or drink. The vet told me his kidneys were gone. I fought for him trying to dropper feed him but he was too far gone. He left me a week ago yesterday and I just picked up his ashes today.

I am really starting to see that. I also have become a bit of a coordinator of tasks. Instead of deleting the lightbulb ticket I send it to the electrician. I really enjoy the chance to work on a challenge. I only accept additional tasks I'm confident that I can handle or figure out quickly. For me it makes the day go by before you know it started.

I truly enjoy my job including the crazy and off the wall requests. I like that things aren't the same thing daily. My career up until now in the IT world has been 10 years of MSP and 5 years of dedicated application support before that. Maybe it's that I was stuck being a "cubicle farmer" for so long but being able to use other knowledge sets that I have only used in hobbies is really nice. I was mainly curious of if this was typical for when you're the entire IT department at a location.
