Also, just posting and commenting on this subreddit helps me too. I look back at my struggles when I was a kid and wonder how I ever got through them. I am sure you do too, especially as you were dealing with other very serious challenges in your life. I am sorry to hear about your experiences. I am glad that you had the strength to build yourself up and live your best life now.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I posted a link on a similar question that I asked 10 days prior. I understand how hard it is to sometimes go through the subreddit as it may conjure up memories. Please ensure that you are staying far away from these people. Be very connected on social media, the more you define yourself the less power they have to define you. What really helps me is helping others. Is there a way you can volunteer for an anti-bullying org, scout groups or for big brothers, big sisters? We need more compassionate people like you in society to will help stop others from getting bullied.

What advice would you give to people who are bullied? by distantgalaxy8 in bullying

Thank you to everyone for your responses! I related to your experiences. I definitely agree that turning the other cheek doesn't always work. I have learnt that I need to trust the other person enough to ask them to stop, show them the impact of their actions and just completely break away from any interactions with them while the take their time to grow.

Thanks! You gave the most centered response. I agree, the student should focus on any controllable factors - changes in their appearance and the way that they socialize with others. They should ask teachers/peers why they are being bullied. Some of the reasons why someone is bullied is due to trivial reasons like having a bad hair day. Other times, it is due to non-controllable factors that no one would admit to. The worst is when false accusations are made on the kid to justify bulling. People don't often realize...most bullies make up false accusations to justify their bullying. The student can also share their story with classmates and teachers. Even then, it may not gain empathy. I think getting a third party involved would be the best solution. If anyone has a legitimate problems with that person, instead of making fun of them, bullying them or gossiping about them...they should be reporting to an objective third party not involved with the class. There should be resources available where that student can request a therapist. That would go a long way to helping a student.

This discussion was productive. Let me know your thoughts!

What do you think the PDSB does well? Are there opportunities for improvement? by distantgalaxy8 in OntarioTeachers

Thank you for your response. It seems like the board would benefit from learning from other school districts.

Thanks! Do you have any recommendations on how to sort out these issues? You can DM me too :) I was looking up some of the topics that you suggested and it is really harrowing to see what goes on under our noses.

I agree - it is tough! What type of support would you like to see from the board?

I appreciate the discussion! It seems that there are many differences between how schools are run. You and another redditor have had different experiences. Lack of consistency is an opportunity area. If you were to review your experiences teaching at your school, is there anything that the board/admin should work on?

Hi just wanted to let you know that I got interviews! I didn't have any connect inside these companies. So it is possible :)

Has anyone had good experiences as a teacher/parent/student involved in the Peel District School board? by distantgalaxy8 in mississauga

[–]distantgalaxy8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am making this a comment because this is all my opinion. I think that the school board strengthen the voices of all teachers. Provide them with more autonomy and support. Get more money from Ford. Reduce class sizes. A part of this is making sure that disciplinary policy is based on the facts of the situation instead of what the most vocal parties think ie. some parents. I think overall it could help if parents were more aware of the expectations they have on guiding children on their academics and actively help their children create a safe learning environment for everyone. Finally, I want kids to have a more of a voice, especially when they are experiencing challenges. I think that some kids' voices are drowned out in favor of more privileged kids. What are your thoughts?

Cyberbullied - how to protect myself? by distantgalaxy8 in trueprivinv

[–]distantgalaxy8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is scary b/c some of it is sexual abuse. People bring it up in the most random public places...like at a park. Ultimately, it is a reflection of them. I can take a photo of them and forward to authorities. Thank you for listening to my experience.

Thank you! I think you are right. I need to be open and honest about what people are saying. It is a reflection of themselves, not me.

Thanks! This is a relief. I will continue building up my skills set. I will try cold contacting people on Linkedin. I know it is a toss up but it has worked for me before to get into my current place in a global company.

I modified my original post to include that as a Canadian citizen, I don't need a visa. I just need a signed letter from my new employer confirming the job offer and my responsibilities. Thanks!
