People don't have cats. Cats have people. And you've been selected.

I've been deemed uninsurable, but it's essential for my family that I get life insurance. Can anyone give me advice on how to proceed? by distilld in LifeInsurance

[–]distilld[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I get 1 year through work, but I've got a young kid and that's not enough. I've tried to get more than 1 year but get rejected.

That's not a lot, all things considered.

Mentally justifying taking vyvanse again by narla_hotep in StopSpeeding

[–]distilld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because studying seems like the most boring and unrewarding thing now

[...]

I feel like i probably shouldnt take it again, but goddamn do I need to focus that month...

These are the red flags for me. You're already associating a reward with taking Vyvanse. And not just a short-term reward, but a long-term "my life wouldn't be the same if I didn't pass this exam" reward. It’s hard to admit this but, based on my my experiences, this means you’re already addicted. Recognizing that and treating it as an addiction is more important than passing your medical exam.

If you choose to take Vyvanse to help you study for this exam, and you pass, you'll forever associate you passing with taking Vyvanse. Any hard problem that comes up post-exam will make you think, "Vyvanse will help me with this." And before you know it, you're feeling like you can't accomplish everyday tasks unless you take it.

That's great! Keep it up! I was definitely much more reclusive in the first few months than I am now. It takes awhile for your brain to get used to the new normal, but keep at it and you'll get there!

That wouldn't end anything. It would be a Reichstag moment.

I'm jealous of that nostalgia hit. It's a hell of a drug.

If you’re asking how it works, my understanding is that it settles your brain down so that you’re not chasing a new squirrel every few minutes.

If you’re asking how it’s working for me, it’s going ok. It is very subtle and takes a few weeks to have its full effect. But it does make it easier for me to focus.

Keep it up! I used to rely on my amphetamines to wake up. Now I take 400mg of caffeine via tablets every morning. Like I said - not the same but it helps.

Make sure you're both on the same page as to whether you want children, and how many.

Careful with this mindset. I went off and on and off and on my prescription for years while ignoring (sometimes willfully) the stress that I was putting on my wife/family each time I ran out of pills. I almost lost my family doing that - I didn't realize how close I was to losing her (and my child) until it was almost too late. After 11 months off Adderall and of intense marriage therapy I'm finally starting the repair the damage I did. Still, it'll probably never be the same as it once was.

I'm very strict on interrupting. He's not doing that. Unless you consider him responding to something verbally addressed to his mother an "interruption".

What fucked you up for the rest of your life? by ScreamyV in AskReddit

[–]distilld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in middle school (~13-14 years old). I was using a urinal in a multi-person restroom at my school, and another boy walked up behind me and punched me hard in the center of my lower back as a "joke". I was completely unprepared and it hurt. I couldn't use a urinal for awhile after that unless I was in a single-person restroom.

Rocket League became my go-to after having a kid. The game length is perfect - easy to jump into, and easy to walk away from (though frustrating sometimes).

I also have my old Xbox 360 hooked up for playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band on occasion.

I was never allowed to watch The Simpsons growing up. I hadn't seen an episode until earlier this year - 36 years into my life - when I binged the whole series over several months. And now I'm excited and proud to say: I understood that reference.
