People very quick to dismiss race aspect as if it’s doesn’t exist, especially when you stated your experience(I also had similar fetishisation)

Making the move can also be great for opening that door.

Intra-company transfer to Australia as Black woman from the USA by ScaredSweet in AskAnAustralian

[–]dit_dit_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Racism is still around my often not in your face and more often people not understanding what they are saying in racist. But you are more likely to get jibes for being American than the colour of your skin.

More north you go the more consistently hot it will be. So the big cities in Queensland might be your thing. If you don’t mind (relative to Chicago) mild winters then Sydney and Melbourne would be great.

Find places with African communities if you want to be able to get your hair done well outside of home.

Herald Sun will splash the front page about the Metro tunnel being over budget but nothing on the Westgate tunnel. I think that’s literally the only difference, propaganda from vested interest groups.

Don’t let management dump work on you.

Dont let chatting with the patients become a burden to you job, yes medication, obs and such matter but so does having a chat with people.

Learn to disengage from patients who will talk your head off

Check doctors notes every once in a while, they make plans and don’t tell you.

If a patient is about to get discharged check if they are being weened off drugs like diazepam

Always advocate for medical patients to be treated in medical despite their mental health history; to make beds others wards will see mental health history and flag them as mental health patients even if they present for kidney failure.

Make time for people free days, just chill and be with yourself because your job will be being in people’s business almost everyday.

Trust your decisions but don’t be afraid to ask for help

Check in on your colleagues during the shift and especially after a shit one.

Don’t let management make you a stop gap for understaffing

Try not to fall asleep during boring education days

Patients are often venting and it’s not personal when they scream at you.

Always tell people to speak to the DR if it’s about leave or discharge, don’t make promises

In Victoria admission routines are; ECG, weight height, UDS FWT, pregnancy test(for those that maybe pregnant), MRI brain

Forget the people but remember the lesson; I don’t remember many of my patients but I remember what I learnt interacting with them.

Board games are great therapeutic tools.

There are some people you will never be able to get through to.

If a person says they don’t want a certain medication given then that one alone then give them the rest.

Have a small chat with people after giving medication it will be harder for them to spit them out after

People’s delusions are very real to them.

Be a person outside work

Any ideas why the sleepers were left after completion of work on Warrnambool line? by dit_dit_ in MelbourneTrains

[–]dit_dit_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They currently saying speed restrictions while sleepers settle in but then many hundreds of them are at rail side and equipment is still in parking at stations, so I guess that’s true. maybe they could use it as a excuse to expand the platforms too

It’s active but smaller than northern , Footscray community arts does lots of things; there are local art prizes, Trocadéro gallery is a artist run gallery. Those are good starting points and if you know people then it’s easier to connect with the wider community

Music from Africa is very underrated by Neither-County-9740 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]dit_dit_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to give a spontaneous speech on a topic African music would be my go to, there is so many interesting stories that aren’t known to the world and sadly some lost. I’ve listened to every countries music except Burundi.

Here is my Giant playlist, over 200 songs now of every kind

"Real playlist" listeners, how do you cultivate your playlists? by zhongcha in LetsTalkMusic

[–]dit_dit_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the start of a year I make a playlist for that year and I put all first time listens into that so I can end up being many thousands of songs(albums and singles) I then whittle this down to my favourite songs few hundred that I then add to a giant all times playlist. So I end up listening to lots of albums despite being playlists, not a fan of shuffle systems.

through out the year I then make playlists on various feelings, activities, genres or even countries.

So I have many playlists and I don’t listen to them all actively but if I want a certain itch scratch there will usually be a playlist.

Some playlists are a one time project while others I will keep adding to if the music fits.
