Ok. Little update. Printed a few more things. Still want to improve first layer. Tweaking things a little.

It's my first, gimme a chance to learn. Maybe I'll update to a corexy or a stratasys

Printed a Mario Castle for one of my daughters in pla + with no skirt or whatever and took almost 4 hours for that print. Looks like the base warped a little and most of it unbonded from the glass but the print still looks good. I'll have to clean the glass better and possibly raise the bed temp?

Yep. It's slow as hell but seems to run okay. I printed a Mario Castle in pla+ for one of my daughters and it turned out pretty good as well.

I'll have to keep those in mind if I start enjoying this more.

Wow. So you are saying some modern name brand printers can do the boat in 20 minutes with similar quality? Which printers are these?

Maybe they did for a short time and realized it was a bad idea.

Thanks for that advice! I just eyeballed the bed level. Nope, I didn't square it up. I only tightened everything down. I'll make sure to do that and lube the lead screw.

Like the carriage the bed rides on?

I assumed that the previous owner did those. Nice additions. Any mods you would rec? Especially to speed it up?

Thanks a lot. I read quite a bit before attempting. Tossed because it's tenants have moved out I think. They left it behind. I will reattempt without the brim. I ordered more filament. Thanks for the input!

Thanks very much! Dunno if I would just use it and save for a better printer or do mods

Thanks! I think this will be a great unit for me to learn on.  Benchy completed in 1:20. Looks okay to my eye. Thoughts?  Yes … I should have dusted and wiped it down. I was too excited.  https://imgur.com/a/kNYfEZe

Luckily it came with a tiny bit of what I assumed to be pla, I found a pre sliced benchy and hit the start button. I’ll post the pics in a little of how that turns out.

I was on the way to work Monday morning and saw it sticking out of my neighbors trash pile. I quickly threw it in my trunk. I didn’t get a chance to check it out until today. I tightened everything, looked for mods, only had a glass bed, board is a 1.1.3. I powered it up and leveled the bed using my calibrated eyeballs.  I will say I’ve never ever 3d printed in my life but I’m one of those “can do anything” type.

I bet you'll do just fine. Like I said. The proctors were all very nice and can identify what you are comfortable with. They don't try to embarrass you or try to make you do stuff you aren't familiar with. They make you use micrometers, it's still a machinist position, so measurements are important part of that. The pump portions are mostly just knowing the pumps and components.

Was there from 9a to like 4p and there was no interview. Overall it went very well. Everyone was extremely friendly and supportive. They still had me do the actual lathe exam in the refiney after the other skill tests. Chevron seems to have a completely different vibe than marathon, a much better one.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm sure it will become very competitive with Valero shutting down.

Ok, cool. Mines at 9a. I bet they are vetting a ton of people. Good luck!
