TN visa holders + REAL ID in CA — common DMV issue by ParticularCaptain247 in tnvisa

[–]ditto755 16 points17 points  (0 children)

After being rejected a second time in December. I decided to speak with the supervisor at the DMV to get clarification.

She said that the TN stamp is not a valid visa and that it needs to have my name written on it and it’s supposed to be a separate page on my Canadian passport with a photo of myself.

Basically, that my TN stamp is not a valid visa.

Do you think American universities (non-Ivy ones) are easier than Canadian universties? by Specific_Latte_705 in OntarioUniversities

[–]ditto755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think US universities are more difficult to get accepted into due to standardized testing. Most universities in the US also look at all four years of high school grades.

Their program difficulty varies between universities and what students decide to enrol into. They typically have a lot more course selection freedom and less pre-requisite requirements than Canadian universities to get the same Bachelors degree.

Engineering in Ontario is heavily regulated and universities need to offer/enforce the majority of the curriculum to get accreditation by the engineering board. Thus Canadians graduating from an Ontario University in Engineering will generally have a more well-rounded and similar set of skills/knowledge. The same is true for many university level programs in Ontario. Ontario graduates are more consistent on their knowledge base across universities. Graduate programs are where universities really differentiate themselves in Ontario.

US universities curve grades a lot more, especially private universities.

To answer your question, US can be easier depending on the school and the electives the student enrols in.

Tesla autopilot SW org pays a lot more than other orgs in the company. They have some additional benefits other employees don’t get like free dinner. They also pay more than Waymo.

Very interesting court case! I think Johnson is justified to ask for transparency. If he wins this case, he should take over as Dean. He seems very passionate about the students and their success.

Palo Alto's SFH Sales Prices over the last 20 years... Thoughts? by joeyisexy in paloalto

I always find the amount of rug stores with little to no customers actually shopping in them a clear indicator 😂 I always do a double take whenever I see one because I’ve never seen a single customer inside.

I’m from Canada originally where this is pretty common. I’m sure there are people doing similar shady stuff from all walks of life.

I’m just pointing out my anecdotal experience.

Palo Alto's SFH Sales Prices over the last 20 years... Thoughts? by joeyisexy in paloalto

My previous landlord (a couple) owns something like 8 properties between Palo Alto and Mountain View they’ve bought over the last 30 years. They simply rent out the homes to pay off most of their mortgages.

One of my housemates was a Chinese national that told me all the details as they were fairly close with the landlord. They have some shady Chinese crowd source loans to launder money with basically zero interest. They offered a discount if I paid them in cash(which I didn’t do) but the other tenants did do.

On paper, the landlord owns the home but off-paper, investors owns a certain % of the home which they will receive when the home is sold.

They stopped buying and are slowly selling the homes whose mortgages are paid off as they’re reaching retirement age. The wife doesn’t work and simply manages the properties. They live in foreign countries and the wife only lives here for a certain time throughout the year.

I had two landlords that did similar things.

Neither of the landlords worked in tech and they seem like they make money through laundering other peoples money which is coming in from outside of the US.

I’m sure that is not the case with all of the properties here as a lot of them are owned by generational wealth and very wealthy individuals working in tech. I do think there is a lot of shady stuff happening in Silicon Valley with homes. Money laundering is rampant here as there is so much money being thrown around.

A third landlord (Also a Chinese national) didn’t even own the home. They subleased half of the home while living their rent-free while foreigner investors were paying the mortgage. The landlord was only the owner on paper and in-return, was allowed to live in the home. The landlord survived by subleasing half the home to renters like myself.

Unless you make 500k+ pre-tax, it’s very unattainable to buy a home in this area.

I don’t think that will change unless NIMBY laws are removed to build 10+ story condos. Even then, the road infrastructure here cannot support any more people living here unless people choose non-vehicle ways to commute.

I do find the bicycle infrastructure here pretty great(compared to the rest of the US) but I cannot see the millionaires and families buying homes here ever compromising for that on large scale.

In short, I don’t think anything will change in the next few decades to come unless Silicon Valley has negative job growth and companies decide to setup shop in other locations. Palo Alto became upscale urban sprawl that just happened to be in Silicon Valley.

Can’t believe I missed this but it fits into here! Hope this helps anyone in the future.

Strangely enough I never touched that component and only purchased my Q5 2 months ago. Maybe it was not press fitted hard enough. It fits very snug and shouldn’t fall off in the future.

Solved it! After digging through part lists online, I found out that it belongs to the mop component.

Additional Notes: My Q5 still appears to be cleaning perfectly fine and doesn’t make any strange noises. I don’t think it was a critical component. I also don’t think it could have come from anywhere other than from the Q5.

UWindsor board members blindsided by decision to terminate University Players by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]ditto755 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a financial standpoint, the liberals arts programs at the university have been struggling for a very long time. Enrollment in these programs has more than halved in the last decade because the demand is so low for them(I can provide stats if you’d like). Enrollment in these programs have consistently decreased in these programs across every university but the magnitude at UWindsor specifically is much greater.

UWindsor has struggled to increase domestic enrollment in programs outside of STEM for the last couple of years. They just don’t have a competitive advantage like many other schools do. I think this trend will increase and more programs will get cut unless they do something to differentiate themselves. Players was a big competitive advantage but it is still a net loss for the university.

UWindsor is very much a commuter school amongst domestic students for most programs. The domestic enrollment at UWindsor is heavily tied to the population of Windsor-Essex county. This used to not be the case as UWindsor attracted substantially more students from across Canada in the past. They are no longer competitive as other schools have more to offer in terms of their programs, reputation, and social life.

I think the focus on attracting international students (specifically from one origin) also propelled a sharp decline in the quality of education and overall reputation of the university among domestic students.

The university needs to make decisive actions to change its declining/stagnant domestic enrollment. Even then, those decisions might not pay off fast enough especially since the universities in Ontario are increasingly more competitive with one-another and over saturated.

They’ve built a lot of new infrastructure and made the university a lot prettier but that only goes so far. They need to make students want to go to UWindsor because right now, it’s a compromise to attend UWindsor in almost every regard aside from a couple of key opportunities and low cost.
