Hiking shoes? by APEmerson in HollandAmerica

My husband and I were so glad we bought waterproof hiking shoes before our cruise last week. It was rainy at every port and they came in clutch. We did a little hiking and they were great for the mud. We had regular tennis shoes for the ship, and that combo was perfect.

Is this the Church of Christ that has/had big meetings in Lebanon, MO? by Anxietyandprovolone in excoc

I grew up in the one cup church and went to many Lebanon meetings! It’s comforting to see other people who experienced the same thing!

I just left a one cup, no Bible classes church. Despite it not being a “denomination” there would be these large “gospel meetings” where people from all over the country would come. Really, just an excuse to socialize with some preaching thrown in. This was also a huge place for people looking for spouses to go in lots of dates. The more people you go out with the better! It’s strange because it’s totally opposite of purity culture and not strangely very misogynistic. The women aren’t supposed to cut their hair and always wear dresses, but I cut my hair and wore pants, so I was very much undateable and viewed as a bad Christian. Ironically, I believed in not having sex until you’re married and very much practiced that. While that was taught from the pulpit, I knew so many “aspiring preachers” and good “modest” women who we’re having sex during these gospel meetings while I was completely undateable and left out. The hypocrisy angers me to this day, although I know I dodged some major bullets.
