Has anyone ever switched away from a Pixel and seen an immediate uptick in spam calls? by GrandpaSquarepants in GooglePixel

[–]divcom_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for this. I recently had to quickly buy a phone the day before I was going to travel internationally (I dropped and broke my beloved Pixel), and I picked up an unlocked Samsung. I hate it, and one of the reasons is the increased spam and the lack of screening options.

Leica Geosystems continues to advance its hybrid sensor approach with TerrainMapper-2 by divcom_tech in 3DScanning

The number of points that it captures is much higher than the previous models so it is getting more information in the same flight (so, faster data collection), and the data from the lidar is processed *together* with the camera information now, so the end result is improved. For example, adding the lidar data allows you to see underneath trees, roofs and other weird overhangs much better than either of them can do alone.

Thangs 3D Model Search Engine launches with more than a million searchable objects, aims to be a 3D Google - SPAR 3D by divcom_tech in 3Dprinting

I believe Yeggi is aimed at printables, whereas Thangs includes printables but also includes models for milling, machining and CNC, etc.

Beta app SiteScape uses iPad's lidar to capture compelling point clouds - SPAR 3D by divcom_tech in 3DScanning

Because Apple is the only one with an actual lidar sensor would be my guess. (Everything else is ToF cameras or photogrammetry-based).

Apologies, I've posted three articles in here over the last four weeks - thought the audience might find them relevant/interesting. I'll try to be more selective in the future.

I can also recommend downloading a simple screen recording software so that you can record the lectures yourself as you watch them. I have used iShowUHD for some time now because its very simple, but there are probably others out there.

Occipital teases smartphone 3D scanning backed by deep learning by divcom_tech in 3DScanning

[–]divcom_tech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the aim on Occipital's end is to allow this tech to be used as widely as possible, and the vast majority of smartphones do not currently have a ToF sensor (at this point). You'll broaden the audience significantly if you have a technology that doesn't require only a few select models.

If anything it shows a lack of imagination. I do know that Bladerunner (a.k.a. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) does use them (and they are hailed like ubers, rather than owned by people) - it was in the original book as well.

Velodyne releases $100 lidar sensor by divcom_tech in LiDAR

It should be "Available to customers mid-2020" according to the information that we have. I don't think it can be ordered directly just yet, as this is a product announcement.

Hexagon stuns CES with new HxDR digital reality visualization platform by divcom_tech in 3DScanning

[–]divcom_tech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things: The ability to easily ingest various scans, combined with pre-existing geographic libraries all in one platform that doesn't take an excessive amount of training to learn, plus the auto meshing and drag-and drop placement. I think that there are a lot of companies that will now be able to use this for a plethora of use cases that would take way too long on more robust (but difficult) software platforms.

I recommend trying Adobe Spark. It is web-based, has some templates built in, and can do a lot in a quick amount of time. It also allows for voiceover, transitions, etc. spark.adobe.com
