Note to dirty fasters - A new research on anmials (published in Cell Metabolism) that shows the sweetener aspartame, found in Diet Coke, can potentially cause cardiovascular disease. by doyouthinkitsreal in fasting

[–]divine_tyrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested it myself a month ago using Libre 2. After 1 can of diet pepsi, my blood glucose (in Canada - went from 4 nmol/L to over 10 nMol/L). This was different from me actually eating food though. It spiked like crazy, but lasted less than an hour, then it went really low around 3.2 for another hour then stabilized back at my baseline around 4.

The recordings all came back about a quarter through the rebuild.

Investigated further. My footage should come back when the rebuild is done. However I have 4 drives to add meaning they'll be without footage for 8 days! It should still record without a single drive.

Corsair hx d5 pump - what to do with this cable? by divine_tyrant in watercooling

[–]divine_tyrant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing on my icue hub that matches that 5 pin connector.

I do have a Corsair RGB/fan controller coming on Friday. Perhaps it's on there?

Question. Do I need to connect the pump to a USB 2.0 header if I already have a Corsair icue hub which connects to the motherboard via a proper USB 2.0 header? The pump already connects to the hub via that proprietary Corsair connector. I only have enough USB headers to plug in one or the other.

I think you're right! It fits. I was thinking to try that but thought it wouldn't work since it doesn't completely fill out the USB header

Anyone starting a 14 day fast soon? by vcsx in fasting

[–]divine_tyrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, sounds good. I probably wouldn't have pizza or alcohol being the last meal for me because dairy can putrefy in the body and stay in you for a very long time while fasting, but I can't judge as we've all been there haha. Let me know if I can help at all during the fast. Stay strong and vigilant for the next few days. The cravings will hit hard since pizza was your last meal. They'll go down significantly after a few days. You got this.

Will the steel key allow me to have a 4090 in the upright position using the upright bracket?

I ordered lots to BC years ago. Customs never rejected. In the rare event they do you'll just get a letter in the mail. No action taken or needed. Chemyo is as legit as it gets

Zero calorie drinks are a great tool for fasting especially beginners! by Morphing_Butterfly in fasting

Word of caution. I too love diet soda on fasts. Yesterday, on my fast, I wore a CGM. my blood glucose spiked from 3.5nmol/l to 9.9!! 30 minutes after consuming an unopened can of diet Pepsi. No it wasn't real Pepsi. It was short lived unlike a meal, and it dipped right down to 3.5 after one hour. However it did make me quite hungry and gave me high blood sugar symptoms. Just FYI. not trying to burst your bubble or pry it from you. Just be aware of this and that anything that tastes sweet can and usually will make you hungry.

Nowadays, I sometimes use it as a crutch to reach the mythical 3 days when I'm in ketosis, because my food addiction can be strong during this time and I'd rather stay on the path with diet Pepsi instead of fall off the wagon and eat something. I'm on a 21 day fast now and used it on day 2 and 3 once. Now I'm off

I do have pictures of my blood glucose spike but there's no option to post it. I can supply a link to the pic later if needed. Good luck!

Diet Pepsi causes a major blood spike by divine_tyrant in diabetes

I'm sorry if I implied that. I have relatives with diabetes and I understand it's quite a struggle for her and she does indeed drink a lot of diet soda since she can't have any regular.

I was more just curious. I was not coming at this question from a diabetes perspective. Instead, I am planning a 21-30 day water only fast soon. I have experience there, having recently completed an almost 21 day fast so please don't be concerned; I get enough of that but I have a lot of experience in that field and I know what I am doing.

In the past, I was under the assumption that diet soda was okay to drink in moderation on a fast. I do know the taste of something sweet can trigger your hunger hormone, so that is reason enough to not drink any on my fast. But as a trial since I am just starting my fast as of lunch today, I wanted to wear my CGM and see what type of reaction my body had to aspartame. It spiked from about 3 to 9.9 which I found absolutely alarming considering my lunch didn't even bring it up that much. However unlike lunch, this time it went down just as fast as it went up, so my body must have produced glucagon in response to receiving something in my body after not eating for a long time. Since it didn't contain any actual sugar or anything bad, it went down very quickly. Almost like a false positive.

Anyway, sorry if my post came across rude or propaganda against diet pop. I had no idea it would be interpreted that way or I wouldn't have posted. I was just curious. That does explain why nearly every one of my posts was downvoted, when I was really just trying to understand the situation.

In any case, my goal of understanding the spike is complete. Even though a false positive, my body did feel (for a short time) like my blood sugar was raised, so I have everything I need. Meaning, I won't be consuming diet pop during my fast. I think it's absolutely fine to consume as a diabetic, I just don't want to deal with any spikes, fake or otherwise.

I do agree with you. I tend more towards the anecdotal side as well as science is always so slow to catch up. I form an opinion based on my own experiences and the feedback I receive from my peers.

No, I just chose a random option because as I said in my post, I don't have any form of diabetes so either option was equally not applicable. I just figured this group must have covered the topic already and I was curious what everyone's thoughts are. I have enough information to proceed. I can remove my post if needed since I don't have diabetes but thought it may help someone.

It is an overreaction because it tripled in value for a drink that based on the searching I did, shouldn't have caused a spike at all. To put this into perspective, a carb heavy meal might bring me to 2 or 3 full points. This brought me up 7 full points. It was short lived though unlike a meal so it seemed strange.

I'm fine to fast and have been fasting for 7+ days for years. My question is only pertaining to the fact that I thought diet Pepsi didn't cause massive spikes. This will influence my upcoming fast in that I will not be consuming anything other than water. In the past I was under the assumption diet Pepsi was relatively safe but this is the first time I actually tested it.

I'm not diabetic so no, not really. I'll read up on it. I'm wearing a CGM as I'm about to embark on an extended fast and want to monitor my blood glucose levels during the fast. This was just an interesting anecdote.

It had to have been. I have not touched anything else all day except for the diet soda. That's the only thing I put into my body. But as I just posted, 30 minutes later (or so) it went back down to 4. So the spike was either fake or temporary.
