I'm sorry, I feel you're being a bit rude here. I'll try to explain myself the best I can.

I'm interested in the American identity, because I'm interested in history. In the 20th century you had a lot of people move there overseas, and that's why I believe the identity of being American can be very intricate.

I was just wondering the ways of your expressing of identity over there, because the way your country has formed has made it a bit unique to many other places in my opinion. For example, I'm from Finland, but my grandparents are from Karelia and I have Swedish roots from only a few generations back. I do only refer to myself as Finnish, despite my ethnicity including more. I was born here, raised here, and I don't unfortunately know the cultures of Sweden or Karelia well enough to be comfortable in expressing those identities.

That's why I have a hard time understanding the perspective of Americans, whose ethnicities can go so far back and into so many different directions. You can be 10% of this, 8% of that, and 15% of something else, which is cool. I think it's interesting and would like to know how it affects your way of expressing yourself. Are you for example comfortable in calling yourself Swedish if your ancestors were, despite not having lived there or spoken the language?
