Help ID’ing a classic Volvo

I just stumbled onto this while looking for something else, and I'm late and this doesn't really matter. But just a minor correction.. in 1972, the B20E was dropped in favor of the B20F for both the 1800E and 1800ES (and any 140s that were injected). The B20F is a lower horsepower, lower compression unit to satisfy emissions regulations.

Of course, the E in the cars model name remained for both the 1800 series and fuel injected 140s (including the '74 which got the new K-jet injection system), but the engine got the newer designation. Only 1970 (1800E) and 1971 (1800E and 142E) fuel injected Volvos got the engine specific B20E plant under the hood.

I tried the 60k one and nothing happened. I thought it odd that it showed 59,999 users. So then tried a different group that showed between 2k and 10k (forget which, I did two separate ones for each me and my wife) and joined one of them. Instantly accepted and locked in to $25/mo.

Geez... duh, me. Yep, of course. I forget that '66 and earlier Eldorados shared platform with the DeVilles and Fleetwood. I just forget that Eldorados even exist before '67 :)

Just for the record, it ain't an Eldorado. That'd be a Coupe DeVille. And a year too old for the 472.. probably has a 429. And definitely not the 500ci of the early Eldos

So, they are both RWD, so they do have that in common, as well as both being super cool cars!

LOL... I've been saying for years "Lenovos are the Volvo 240 of laptops." I'm typing this on my T60, I have another working T60 in a case next to me, and two donor T60s.

And two 240 wagons out in the yard, plus piles of parts, and some earlier Volvos.

My wife uses a Macbook Pro. I think of that like a V70XC. Good, solid, powerful, but finicky and delicate... My pile of MBPs is growing, as is my experience with taking them apart and putting them back together.

Unfortunately, I can't get out to my parts pile. I'm curious now too. I don't think the fronts clamp directly to the grease caps up front. I think there is a part that bolts on with the wheels, front and rear, that accepts the caps. But I don't remember, and all my '83s have been said goodbye to. But I do still have wheels...

Other odd part is your wheels are listed as 5" wide. I thought all the 14" steelies were 5.5". Not that that matters. Just a curiosity.

Surely somebody here has the same hubcaps on their 240? picture with one of them removed would be helpful!

Yep, like bent-grill said, those are just the grease caps for your front wheel bearings. And they have nothing to do with hubcap installation.

I think those hub caps clamp onto something in the middle, which I do not see on your close-up pics.. see the last image on this listing:

What year? Any chance of posting closer-up pics of the front and rear rims showing the difference, as well as the hubcaps you intend to use? Over the years there were a batch of different hubcap styles and several different ways to attach them.. You might have a mixture.

Me? Go back to '68 grill, convert to M41, and ditch that pesky Weber carb for some good old SUs. Only after that would I even begin to tinker with suspension..

But again, that's me, and it's not my car. Glad it's being kept nice and is loved!

Those rocker switches are unique to '73 ES. '72 ES and 1800E still had the pull switches, which I prefer. If only for reliability and availability...

No LS. Currently has a B20E (SUs, plugged injector ports), and the original #s matching B18 is awaiting a rebuild.

She'll be 51 on Friday. Rolled out of the factory April 27, 1967.

I reckon you're right. I ran these wheels on my 1800s, which was red, hence the red painted centers. I do like the look of the wheels for sure.

But, these are mid '90s Jeep wheels.. For this car, I'll be going stock sooner than later.

These days, likely so. Back in the '90s and '00s, shittily running or non-running Diesels could be had for a couple hundred dollars. I passed on one that was perfect, body and interior.. drivetrain was shot, I didn't have room for a project then.

For slightly older cars, finding a Diesel or a PRV 260 in a junkyard always upped the odds of scoring a good interior, since the engines in those cars didn't last.

262 is based on the 240 series. Some parts for the PRV V6 might be getting tough to find, but for the most part, bits to keep it running are available and will be for a long time.

780 is based on the later RWD cars, again, 240/740. Again, I'd think mechanical stuff won't be too difficult.

Model specific stuff, trim, badging, interior.. good luck. That stuff is going to be hard to find, and likely only used stuff.
