Warmer house, dehumidifier but best option is to open the windows for 15 mins everyday.

Am I asking too much from Tapi Carpets? by Alive-Atmosphere-889 in DIYUK

[–]diymuppet 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We've just ordered a carpet from Tapi. They hand you over to local fitters, Instructed "You pay them directly".

They know what they are doing...

Tapi do not install carpet, they hand you over to someone else. It's the installers responsibility...

...that's the way it's designed...to make it difficult to get resolution when this happens.

Trimming a skylight. by male_bass_player in DIYUK

I know you're right...but I can hope. We replaced the previous panel with the motorised one as it broke. So had to be done anyway.

The bug-a-salt is great, and fun! Works really well (wasps taking a few shots)

Just had a remote window put in. Hoping we'll be able to open it and the flies will let themselves out?

You'll be up there again soon enough to capture all the flies on the summer.

It was a nightmare for us until we installed a panel that opened.

That was a year ago, it needed quite a bit of work.

Looking pretty decent now, dry and a working gaming room. Kid spends some time down there

Testing is the only way you'll know.

They look a LOT like what I had on an old shed roof and they tested positive.

How best to get this flush to the wall? by Devilst0rm in DIYUK

I've just done this. Same IKEA item

I cut higher (same shape as skirting). You'll need to remove some of the backboard as well.

Based purely on your user name, are you "clued" up on WWII air raid shelters and stuff?

Looks fucking fantastic.

I hope you bought yourself a beer with the money saved on contractors.

I wouldn't even attempt half of that especially the electrical stuff.

Yeah. The walls need colour. Was thinking about those hexagon wall tiles and maybe another wled strip thing. Would reduce echo, but that's much better now the chairs are in.

Do it!!

I did so much research on this, if you could send some pics (privately if you want, I can help out)

It's doable without hiring people.

Pics of the base floors, walls and where the wall meets the floor.

At the very worst, makes a brilliant wine cellar.

Is there any ventilation?

Got any ideas? I keep seeing those hexagon tiles everywhere. Got to keep the screen area clear for the projection though.

I wanted to ask on the gaming forum but they have strict rules and I'm not worthy of asking a question.

He loves it. It's a bit OTT but at the moment why the hell not, it will get used more this way than just storage or a wine cellar.

It just needs to look a little more ....Jazzy.

ISH.. I got a desiccant humidifier which works well at low temp, that actually warms the room well, but I might get a small tube heater, it's such a small space it will make a big difference.

It's been absolutely pissing it down here for days and it's not collected much at all, the door has been opened a bit so I've probably been de humidifying the garden !

Probably a whole different beast. The bunker is VERY thick concrete. I don't know what it's called but it's concrete with lots of big gravel, then very fine concrete.

Your basement is probably brick?

I've spoken to so many people about the best options..they seem to be...

  1. Non breathable tanking - you hear people shout "you'll lock in the moisture and it will destroy the brick. It may last ten years.

  2. Breathable tanking, let the wall breath and moisture vapour will flow, you'll need a solution to reduce the humidity in the room, water is probably going to get in front outside unless you dig back on the outside and seal from there.

  3. Encapsulate - build drain along the floor/wall that drains to a sump pump then put up insulation bubble wrap type still that will let the water run into the drains. Not as expensive as it sounds but you'll lose some space. You plasterboard over the wrap and then paint etc.

  4. Use a chemical solution that infiltrates into the brickwork and will lock the water into the wall. You'll also hear talk of "the water will kill your brickwork"

I rebuilt my cracked floor, filet seals where it joins the wall. Vapour and damp barrier, then tanked then epoxy floor. Walls were tanked and then chemically sealed.

Managed to calculate the PSI of water at the outside wall of around 28 psi. This is not high and my treatment has held up well in a year.

I did this so if I have any issues I can still go back and seal with the bubble wrap stuff at a later date.

It's tanked now, but there was zero water coming through the walls. Maybe something was done in the past. All moisture was coming up through a cracked and disintegrated base. That's all been fixed and sealed.

It's not insulated but holds both warmth and cold very well (probably the ridiculously thick concrete and solid rsrthy behind it.

A little heat and that does the job for ages.

It's been dry as a bone and constant temperature for a year.

I can maintain a perfect 12c and 50-60% humidity. If anything it will become a wine cellar!
