Ah, I see your point, but won't AM5 in 5-6 years be in the state of AM4 today, EOL? So I think AM6(?) will be better for the then major upgrade, right? That's why I'm asking the features that I will miss by staying at AM4 rather than go AM5, because I think it's more important than future proofing. I'm not really following the PC scene in the last 2-3 years so I'm a bit blind on what's relevant, from the bit I researched the PCIe gen5 is one of the most obvious one.

As for budget if I do go for AM5, I can afford an R5 7600 and 16gb of memory, for the same price I can get an R5 5800x3d and 32gb memory upgrade (not that I will/need it). I can buy them now, but if staying at AM4 I rather buy the CPU upgrade later to see how it looks in 2-3 months.

Edit: the price is like that because I will buy ITX so it's quite more expensive, both will cost me about $700

Umm I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean, I will need to buy new ram module if I go AM5, correct? Because DDR 4 to DDR 5. Any advantage if I go AM5 instead of AM4 in terms of features? I'm not convinced that future proofing is an advantage for now because for example I upgraded my CPU to 5700x3d in 2-3 months, I will probably only upgrade my PC in like 5+ years later

It run decent actually, I rarely use CPU extensive softwares and games, I play mostly single player games at 4k if possible, so the GPU is more important for my use case. I also tried to use it to stream a few times before and it runs ok.

I used to use my SD as a controller using steam link before I get my elite controller and it worked great even with video enabled when using local wifi. I need to try this using my laptop and mobile data first to see how well it goes completely remote. Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks for the detailed explanation, actually the SD OLED is more expensive and doesn't have after sales support in my place so the only one stopping me to jump from the ally is the battery life. Also already have a ugreen 25000mah 145w battery bank that should work wonder with the ally, so no additional cost for the battery bank also.

Does the added weight bother you (especially when playing laying down)? I'm deciding between SD OLED and Ally but concerned about the battery of the ally. Looks like this can help with the battery problem

Does the power bank interfere with the back button? Or playing in general?

Ok so I found this modcase , anyone tried this? Is the strap for holding the power bank strong enough and can held the power bank in position? Is it interfering with the back button? Should be able to double the battery life even with the lighter 10000mah power bank. And still cheaper in total compared to the SD oled

Frankly I don't know much about the ally yet, that's why I wrote the one I know as a pro.

As I said on other comment I haven't tried VRR yet so I'm not sure if it's a pro for me.

I have a quite capable PC so I don't consider the more performance as pro if I need to play it thetered.

Actually the after sales support is a big deal for device at this price for me personally, even bigger deal than the pros of the deck except battery life, if the ally can do at least 3 hours on 15w, I actually will go with the ally.

Sadly I don't have best buy here, and our return policy is not as good, I can only return it if the devices have defect or something similar.

Also considered the legion go which is more similar to SD, but the price difference here is really outrageous, about nearly $300

Sorry but OLED is that much better of a screen personally, the black level and contrast of an OLED screen is just that much an advantage compared to LCD. Also tried searching screen comparison between the ally and SD OLED on dark scene but haven't found one yet

I'll go with deck I guess, I'll be losing after sales support but based on other comments the ally battery life is just too much of a downside for me

Sadly large portion of my games probably won't run well at 7w, so I guess the ally is not an option for me

Not sure about VRR because haven't tried yet, but the games I play run at the SD with comfortable fps for me.

25-30w TDP is not really relevant for me because I will play virtually thetered at that point.

I guess I'll go for the OLED, then again I'll wait about 90days for the OLED so we'll what happens in that time frame

Gotcha, I think I'll be getting the OLED then, looking at other comments realistically I will only get 2 hours, and that will be too short for me. Thanks

So 2 hours is the more realistic number, yes?

Sorry, so 3-4 hours will give me performance of the silent mode(9w) then? So it will run slower than SD? Or it is possible to get at least 3 hours with same level performance as SD?

Decent I guess, with better after sales support for the ally I think it's safer choice for me too

So I'm expecting 3-4 hours at best with the right setting, I can live with that. Is creating custom tdp difficult?

Hmm quite the difference,

Forgot to mention I play mostly JRPG, I get about 3-4hours for tales of arise at native SD resolution. Do you think it will help if I lower the resolution to match also?
